At the sound of a non-agressive voice, Shel turned around in surprise to see Tempest. The cat slinked between them silently. "Hello," Shel said pleasantly, still smiling at a time like this. "I don't suppose this creature is yours, ma'am?"
Sakia was scanning the crowds, trying to suss out who was on what side. A band of pirates barged past her, in pursuit of someone, probably Damien. She slashed at them, almost decapitating one and slicing another's neck.

Tempest shook her head, glancing down at the cat. "I... uh, I kinda thought it was yours," she admitted. "I mean, it's following you." Something about the animal was weird, but she couldn't quite place her finger on it from where she was standing.
"Um, ah, right," Ren sputtered, reaching ino his jacket and pulling out a gun. "Yeah. We can help out." Nerida grabbed it from him before he could hurt anyone. "I still don't really trust you with these things." "Fair enough." He let her run off. "Really, I don't even know who we're fighting. Lots of unfamiliar faces, y'know?" Honestly, he was terrified, and more focused on how he could get further away from the approaching hostile mob.
It was a good day to not be above looting dead bodies. Kara had finally managed to find a gun. Normally she'd be content fighting with fire, but that wasn't exactly an option at the moment. Everything was already up in flames. She finally managed to retreat into a nearby alley, relieved to finally breathe again. The crowd and the smoke combined had been suffocating.
Footsteps. Plenty of footsteps. And then nothing. They were busy chasing others, presumably. Gardenia slipped out of the ship, but not before snatching a lovely silver bracelet that'd been laying there, practically begging to be stolen. If people were going to be irresponsible, they seriously had it coming. She slipped away from the pier. From what she knew, this wasn't any familiar crew. She didn't like that. Too unpredictable.

"Who gives a damn who they are? They're pirates, they're killing everyone. But I think they might be read to go." Linden stopped to reload his gun. "Goddamnit, there's so many of them. Feels like I'm the only one bothering to fight back." He aimed for one of the people carrying some cabinet filled with loot. The cabinet dropped and a person fell out of it and ran.

Lucy lead Aries to a random ship, quickly sneaking aboard. They ran down to a lower deck and hid behind a stack of barrels. The gunshots were getting fainter now. The raid was coming to an end. Lucy brought her index finger to her lips as she pressed her body to the walls of the ship. It was dark down here, and with her hood drawn up she looked nothing short of sinister. Aries remained silent, not daring to move a muscle.

Sakia fought her way out of the midst of the battle, needing time to recuperate. She was fatigued, for sure. If only there was somewhere to take refuge. She knew that if she let her guard down for even a second, it'd be her blood on the pavement next.
"Oh. I see." Shel said plainly, wiping a fleck of sweat from his brow. He hadn't noticed that a certain someone was missing.
Phase, as someone had once called him, slipped away from Tempest and Shel. It wasn't too hard to do as he was a black cat. Following only some kind of intuition, or maybe a sixth sense, he padded up onto the ship. He wandered the area like he owned the place. He wandered a lot. It was a habit.

"Huh. Guess he's gone," Tempest said. "Well, that was kinda cool. You'd think all the animals would be hiding, y'know? I don't even think that cat knows what's going on." Not that she knew much more than it probably did.
Ren shrugged, taking a small step back. He checked his pockets, but found them empty. That gun had been his only weapon. "Well, once the initial shock of it's over, people are bound to fight back, am I right?" Crap. He should've grabbed something else. "That's usually how it goes." He glanced over to the nearest ships. A few people were stowing away on boats that probably weren't theirs. Panicked, scorched townsfolk with nowhere better to go. He spotted a headless figure that must've been hit mid-crawl. "Y'know, assuming there're enough people left."
Kara could see the ocean. Pirates were still racing over to plunder some more, but at least it wasn't quite the crowded, smoky chaos of the town square yet. It'd be open ground, which definitely wasn't as bad. Someone grabbed her by the wrist. Kara whirled around, gun in hand, and pulled the trigger. Nothing. Out of bullets. No wonder the gun had belonged to a dead man. The woman who'd snagged her actually cracked up. In the smoke, she seemed to glow. There was an odd, bluish tint to her skin. For a moment, Kara only stared: was this some kind of pre-death hallucination? "Are you with them?" The stranger asked. "The freaks doing this. I've never seen this crew before." "I don't have a damn clue who they are, but I think I nearly died." She wasn't even scared. More pissed off than anything else. "Let go of me." Nerida was about to snap at her, but suddenly holding onto Kara was like slamming your hand onto a hot stove. She quickly drew back. "Huh. You'd fit in here. Everything's burning to the ground." "I did until they started shooting. That was a jackass move."

"It looks like they might be retreating, but there's so many, it's hard to tell. People who try to wait this out are gonna get killed." Fallow broke through the streets onto the beach, and slashed at the first enemy he encountered. The pirate blocked easily. Their laugh was cut off by the bullet through their head. "I'd like to clarify," Linden shouted, "that if you're bad at fighting you'd probably be better off waiting it out." "Sorry," calls Fallow.
Jess looked sideways as Sakia appears from the chaos. "Hey, you." She holds up her gun menacingly. "Are you a pirate? I need help to go try to destroy one of the ships but if you're with them I'm just going to shoot you."

The square soon became ghost town. The fighting had moved over to the beach where the pirates frantically made their retreat. Radium continued brawling there, kicking up a commotion of sand and shouting. With the snap of her fingers, the legs of a pirate were blown right off their body. Radium smirked as she snatched their jewels from their throat. She was covered in blood, but at least she could get a little bit richer.
Hallows reloaded his gun and pointed it at another pirate, who froze in their tracks. He pulled the trigger and the pirate fell dead.

Sakia held up her hands immediately. Even if she did have a sword, Jess had a gun, and would definitely kill her if she made a move. "No way! I hate those freakin' pirates as much as anyone!"
Shel looked at the battle raging out on the beach, and back at Tempest. "Perhaps we should find cover?" he suggested, not knowing what else to do. If push came to shove, he knew he'd fight, but they were clearly outnumbered.

"That's probably a good idea," Tempest agreed, laughing nervously. "This whole place is gonna be burned to the ground pretty soon, y'know? I think most of the fighting's moved to the beach. There isn't really any safe place to be..."
"I am... very bad at fighting," Ren said, still anxiously checking his pockets. Even a knife would do. Just something so he wasn't empty-handed. "Especially unarmed. This is terrible."
Kara and Nerida eventually emerged from the smoldering town on the beach, which was now practically a bloodbath. "Guess most people can't fight in a burning square," Kara remarked. A pirate that came too close for comfort burst into flames.

"Good." Jess lowers the gun. "Come with me. We'll pick up more people along the way if we can, but we should hurry." Without checking to see if Sakia was following her or lying, Jess resumed her path to the beach. They weren't far.
"God, just shut up and take this." Linden pulls out his second gun and tosses it to Ren. "Don't mess it up, okay?" He returned to business shooting people. He briefly called to Fallow, "and you, stay put and don't get yourself in trouble."
Too late. Running down the beach towards him, Fallow had his sword vaguely pointed in front of him at Radium and Hallows. He clearly didn't know what he was doing with that sword.

"Holy hell," Hallows choked out as the sword narrowly missed his spleen. "What the shit do you think you're doing?!"
The tip of the knife had wedged itself under one of his ribs, uncomfortably close to his internal organs. He could only hope it wasn't fatal. He'd never been stabbed like this before. Hallows pointed the gun and Fallow's head and fired, but a bullet failed to deliver. He fired again, and again, and again, to no avail. Was he out of bullets already? Hadn't he just reloaded? He couldn't barely breathe, nevertheless think. From the corner of his eye, he noticed Radium struggling with a band of three, too busy fighting for her own life to bother saving his.
Shit, he thought. He couldn't die like this.

"Okay! I'm game!" Sakia called cheerfully, speeding along beside Jess. She didn't seem to harbour any ill will despite the latter pointing a gun at her.
"Where can we go... I can't believe I almost want to follow that cat." Shel chuckled incredulously. It almost seemed like it knew exactly what it was doing.

"Well, that cat definitely had the coolest head I've seen all day," Tempest said, giggling. "Everyone else's running amok. Or killing people while running amok. Lots of chaos."
Ren took the gun, and being armed was enough to soothe his nerves at least a little bit. He took aim and shot down a couple of pirates, a nervous grin forming on his face. "Okay. Yeah. I... I've got this."
"You know, I think the last thing we need is more fire," Nerida muttered as Kara burned another attacker alive. "You're scaring people. Potentially innocent people." "Kind of the point," Kara replied with a laugh. "This crew's huge. And new. I don't recognize any of 'em. Can't take chances."

"Aha!" exclaims Fallow. This is the first time that's ever worked. He pulls the sword out again and kicks Hallows in the chin and points the sword at his throat. "Bested, pirate! Struck down by my hands!"
Jess scanned the alleys, passing by nobody else she didn't shoot. She fit her gun back into her belt and drew the dagger from the other side as she strode confidently onto the beach towards a random ship, blending in with the pirates (except that she stabbed at least two literally in the back).
