Characters I'll Be Using
Giles: A tall, muscular boy with wide shoulders, tanned skin, and large hands. His eyes are a warm golden color, his nose broad and flat. He’s a rather gruff person, having a low tolerance for stupidity and recklessness. Doesn't speak much. Tries to be a peacemaker. Can manipulate the element of earth.
Zahra: A quiet, dark-haired girl with bronze skin and slanted, deep-set eyes that are smeared heavily with charcoal. Quick and agile, she relies on her twin daggers to get her through a brawl. Although she relies on her skills in close combat to take down opponents, her shadowmancing abilities often aid in battle. She prefers observation as opposed to immediate interaction. Sometimes acts like the mother of the group.
Damien: A sarcastic, irritable boy with jet black hair and quartz grey eyes. He has a very sharp, defined face, with a long, straight nose and a clean-cut jawline. He can be sadistic at times, and tends to lean towards amorality. Has mild telekinesis, and can control the temperature of liquids.
Lucy: The rabbit-like witch, fleet footed and comically lucky, has a sigil of good fortune scrawled upon her left ankle. She is naturally gifted with magic, specifically luck manipulation. Doesn't talk much. Likes to trick people. Revels in chaos. Wears a hood with rabbit ears.
-
Hallows: Awful. Terrible. Would steal your money AND your girlfriend. Has nice hair though.
Radium: A jerk who will bomb you for kicks and giggles. Gets drunk way too much.
Aries: Precious child. Can set you on fire with her mind. Would rather not do that.

Kor's dudes (expect more later As Usual)
Linden - Young blonde human in a matching jacket and hat. Looks irritated even when he's not. Actually a pretty good person. Wants to be left alone but ~a sense of duty compels him~. Angsty. Jess - A strong, young-looking woman with hair that's way too long and tied in a ponytail. She has spiral scars all over her skin, and is missing an eye. Materialistic jackass. Not hiding the gun or dagger at her belt. Wearing a nice jacket. No sense of duty. Fallow Grey - Cheerful bard with a blonde braid. Seems to just be along so he can talk about it later. Thinks his lute is a sitar, nobody's told him otherwise. Has a sword but doesn't know how to use it. Excited. Good. The Armless Faceless Winged Grey Man - Armless, faceless, winged, and grey.

My squaaaaad
Kara - Not really sure what she wants out of life and expresses that through mass arson and petty crimes. Tanned brunette that somehow looks intimidating by default. Really kind of awful, doesn't bother to deny it.
Nerida- Freaky fish thing. Between the bluish skin and kinda glowy hair, tends to stick out in a crowd. Has become genre savvy and quick on her feet to make up for this. Looks kind of terrifying, but sincerely means well at heart and doesn't like killing people.
Ren - Some sort of dolphin-shapeshifter thing. Everything he does is for attention. Tries to be charming but his jerkish tendencies turn people away. Freaky-pale, usually armed (despite having no knowledge of how to use weapons), always prepared to talk himself up. Terrible.
Tempest- Who let a child on board? Fifteen years old. Dark skin, bright blue hair, never seems to lose confidence, which would be nice, if not for her staggering lack of common sense. Insists she is independent, but probably shouldn't be here.
Gardenia - Thief with a knack for sneaking around. Also not really sure about what she wants out of life, so she just focuses on getting money and valuables, because she's good at it. Headless, and pretty used to people questioning it. Freaky shadowy powers. Observant, prefers to stay in the background.

There's fire and screaming all of the east end of the city. Maybe you're among it, maybe you're not close enough, but one way or another you'll hear about it. It's the big news - the infamous pirate gang who's been tearing up all over has struck again.
Linden heads right to the scene, gun drawn and joining the people running through the streets. He arrived at the beach. He wasn't sure what he was expecting, but it sure as hell wasn't all this blood. It looked like it spelled words. Jess was taking it a bit easier. She'd been right in the middle of all of it. In the squabble, she'd taken a sword to the eye. She'd shot at least two people (at least one pirate) and now stood alone at the exit to the bar, pressing a soggy napkin over her eye socket, looking annoyed. Fallow had taken a roll spreading the news. Looking frantic, he found the busiest town square he could and stood on a fountain and strummed loudly on his lute, then yelled really loud about what had happened.

Lucy ran barefoot, darting around the back alleyways of the city with her rabbit hood drawn up. Despite, the shattered glass and bullet shells that littered the ground beneath her feet, she remained unscathed by the rough terrain. Frantic shrieks followed her down each turn, gunshots echoing in the distance. The entire eastern end of the city had been consumed by chaos, and Lucy reveled in it. It wasn't long until she spotted a child, Aries, and slowed to a halt. She kneeled down to the girl.
"Hey. Wanna come somewhere fun?" she offered, her voice a quiet, bell-like tone.
As if the child had a choice. In a matter of seconds, they were running hand-in-hand down another alley, right into the center of discord.
-
"Blasted pirates!"
Radium shrieked as she sent explosions flying. With her face caked with sweat, blood splattered all over her clothes, and adrenaline surging through her veins, she was itching for a fight that seemed to already be in progress. A bullet grazed her cheek, and, with a flurry of curses pouring from her mouth, she filled the air with the sound of firecrackers. Her opponent was quickly reduced to smithereens, but Radium had more trouble headed her way. A bullet whizzed past her ear as the pained roar of a dying man erupted behind her.
"You're welcome, sweetheart," came the arrogant voice of Hallows Sparse, who then proceeded to wince from the sound of an explosion. He was doused in the blood of the pirate to his left.
"Consider that my thanks."

Sakia had been dealing with a rogue pirate for quite some time now, so she was pleased to see him finally slump to the floor. She hauled her sword from his abdomen, making a face at the gore that spewed forth and quickly getting back into a defensive stance, but it didn't seem like there were any more around that area, thankfully. She decided to seek out a place with more people, in hopes they would be on her side.
Meanwhile, Shel had been quietly singing to himself as he made his merry way down an alley. There were some other people there, including a little kid. On his trail, a cat followed. It was jet black with an inky tail, and creepily, no eyes, no mouth, nothing to suggest any facial features had ever been present. Shel looked down on it disdainfully and continued malingering like a bad smell.

"Way to ruin my fun, assholes," Kara muttered as she weaved through the crowd. Really, it had all been fun and games until the first gunshots. She could easily handle fire. Bullets were another story. Plus, wasn't that a bit overkill? A burning square definitely would kill most people in it. This was just a bit too extreme. And now she was in the real mess of it, drowning in a panicked mob. Definitely not how she'd wanted her day to go.
Tempest was hiding in one of the slimmer, darker alleys, eyes and throat still stinging from the smoke. She didn't know her way around at all, and was more or less running blind. Hell, she didn't even know who the enemy was. That probably put her at a disadvantage. All she could do was wander.
Ren had taken refuge on the beach, and was watching the smoke rise. "Whole town might burn to the ground," he observed dully. People were still flocking out on occasion, bodies blackened by soot, coughing up a storm. "This is definitely a new level of brutality," Nerida murmured. She'd spoken to Ren maybe a total of once before. He'd threatened to rob her, she'd nearly shot him. Now, she was just glad for a familiar face in all the chaos. They'd practically dragged each other out to safety.
Gardenia, meanwhile, was the furthest of all from the chaos. She'd slipped into the harbor, snuck onto the closest ship. It was anchored down, probably belonged to someone rich, and by extesion was likely full of valuables. She was itching to explore, but right now, she just needed to hide. Who knew how much that fire would spread?

"Crap, there's fire, too?" mutters Jess. She wasn't a huge fire person. It was a pretty painful way to die, plus... She dragged her ponytail over her shoulder so she could keep it in check, then steered herself to the east to head down to the waterfront and figure out what was really going on.
A huge bell began to toll from one of the ships. The few pirates who still stood on the bloody beach turned and began to fall right back to their ships. It seemed awful soon, but judging by the damage they had caused... Linden straightened his arms and shot at least three happy retreating pirates before someone noticed him and he had to head back into the cover of the city. There were a lot of people around here. What were they doing so close to the ships? They better know how to defend themselves.
Fallow, finished with the square, having told a few people to get inside or to straight out run, decided that the best next line of action was run head-on into danger. Fitting his instrument on his back, he drew his sword instead, and a little bit slower so he didn't accidentally stab someone, he started his way through the chaos towards the beach, eyes scanning for anyone who needed help.

Zahra pulled a dagger from its sheath and dragged it across the neck of an unsuspecting pirate, who slumped to the ground rather ungracefully. She had already made quick work disemboweling his partner, a wiry girl with silver hooped earrings. Shrouded in a veil of darkness, it was almost impossible to track Zahra. She slipped through the crowd with ease. The smoke didn't bother her much, and all the noise made a friendly distraction away from her person. As of now, her goal was survival.

The docks were a terrible place to be, Giles noted as he punched his way through the crowd and tried his best to avoid the ones with guns. He figured that pacifism would only lead to an untimely death, so he was forced to fight. Being bigger and taller than the majority of the crowd surely proved to be a good strength in times like this. As long as he didn't get shot somewhere vital, he'd be fine.

Sakia had just been doing her thing, wandering around the town and slicing some pirates when it suited her. She paused at a destroyed stall to extinguish a curtain that had caught on fire, helping in any way she could.
Lurking in the shadows, Shel had a less direct approach. Look for enemies within reach and swiftly taking them by surprise without having to indulge in a bar-style brawl. The sound of gunshots were everywhere, so it didnt even matter if they heard him. He reloaded his pistol and took another pirate out, that damn cat never leaving his sight. He'd thought someone would've killed it by now.

"This is awful," Kara mumbled as someone went down right beside her, blood pooling from their head. The noise was almost overwhelming, and she didn't get overwhelmed easily. For the first time in a while, she actually felt like her life was at risk. "Shit. Shit! This is really damn awful." She stepped on something that squelched beneath her boots. Ugh. She'd have to clean them as soon as she got out of here.
Tempest forced herself over a fence. More dark, walled paths ahead. This town was like a labyrinth! No, wait. Something moved in the corner of her eye: small, dark, with a long tail... "A cat," she murmured, and she almost laughed. What was a cat doing in all of this? Normally, wouldn't most animals be hiding, rather than meandering about? She dropped down. Maybe following the thing would help. Animal instincts or something, right?
"What're you betting the death toll will be?" Ren asked, snickering. "It's just getting worse by the second." "I don't like betting on things like these," Nerida said quietly.
Gardenia flinched at a new eruption of gunfire, closer than ever before. The fighting was growing closer. If things got especially bad, she'd have to make a quick exit. She didn't know her away around well enough to be confident in that.

Fallow turned a rough corner and found himself in a crowded alley. He exclaimed something surprised and took several steps back. Someone fell over. Fallow glances at his bloody sword. "O- oh... Shit... Sorry." There were lots of people heading back to the beach and lots still fighting. It was hard to tell pirates from defenders and the wounded from corpses.
A throwing knife wails over Ren's head and narrowly misses Linden. He shoots twice to send down the shooter, then frowns at Ren and Nerida. "Are you guys just gonna sit there? This is kinda important."

Damien sprinted down the wooden pier, hurtling over the railing and onto the beach. He wasn't sure what to do now, but he sure as hell wasn't just going to stand there and let himself get killed. Running any farther would launch him right into the center of action, but he couldn't remain stationary with a band of pirates hot on his heels. They had swords and daggers and well, all he had were the shoes on his feet. He cursed under his breath. He was running out of options.
"BOOM! You're dead!" roared Radium as an explosion rang through the sky. Her thoughts were racing a mile a minute, and her attacks were flying even faster. She grinned. Her chances of survival had drastically improved now that she had an ally. Despite knowing one another for barely even a minute, she and Hallows had teamed up, taking the square by storm.
I am going to go deaf, Zahra realized as more gunfire screamed through the air. The streets had been painted red with blood, soot-stained bodies sprawled out across the ground. She had a better chance of avoiding trouble in the alleys, but a good hiding spot meant nothing if the fire reached her first. The sharp stench of charred flesh oozed through the cloth mask that covered her face. She scaled a building and dashed towards the beach, dodging bullets and leaping across rooftops the whole way through.
Back at the square, Lucy weaved smoothly through the pandemonium with Aries by her side. Nobody seemed to pay them much attention. Aries stifled her tears, smoke burning her eyes. Her tiny legs were hardly long enough to handle the pace they had set.
"It hurts, I can't see anything," she wailed.
"I know where your brother is," Lucy replied, and that was enough to silence the child.
