"I-I-I, uh..." Distortion stuttered in an attempt to reply before promptly giving up. He nodded briskly and struggled to make his way through the baffled crowd of customers, opening the doorand throwing off his gloves with a frustrated sigh. "W-What the heck is this?" He mumbled to no one in general. Hazel, now with one less thing to worry about, was straining to calm down a group of panicking schoolchildren. "O-Once the power's back on, I'll call your parents for you, alright?"
Amethyst and Topaz had found themselves lost. The former never really left the quieter parts of the city, and the latter was an eleven-year-old girl. It was a bad combination. Somehow, they'd ended up travelling behind the doors, in the alleyways of the city. For the moment, Amethyst's priority was keeping away from the crowds. It was simply even more of a hassle. She'd have to find her way back to her aunt's house, and from there... "Hi there!" Topaz chirped, noticing Guy alone in the alleys. "Do you know what's going-" "Topaz." Amethyst interrupted. "Aren't you old enough to know not to talk to strangers?" "C'mon. Things're bad..."

"Well, keeping the power on 24/7 would probably take alot of work, so maybe the guardians just wanted to have a small break?" Silver muttered.

"It says here that the Guardians have been doing this work for generations. Somehow." Mallory pointed out, skimming through the borchure. "I suppose that might explain why this is such a big deal..."

"That's IF the power comes back on," announces Jess, splaying her fingers. "This could either be a little hiccup or the downfall of a city.Even if it's only a hiccup, things are gonna go crazy after this. Hell, looks like they're crazy right now. This is super cool." She didn't feel the need to restrain herself around kids, apparently.
Guy jumps, putting a long-fingered hand over his mouth. "Hi!" He smiles widely, his mouth extending to a creepy degree. "I don't- Oh! Sorry, sorry sorry, I won't talk to her, I'm a stranger." He laughs and turns his head away, hand not leaving his face. "Sorry."

Hazel glared at Jess, pointing at the children. "H-Hey, there're kids here. They're already scared enough. C'mon. At least.. y'know... watch the language." She was already on edge. The last thing she needed was someone spreading even more fear. "The Guardians do their job well. I'm sure they'll be right back."
"He seems nice." Topaz said to her cousin with a laugh. "I mean, a little bit... strange... but you're kinda weird, too." "What are you talking about?" Amethyst muttered, still suspicious. Topaz shrugged. "That's not the point right now. Anyways, um, mister... do you know anything about this whole mass outage thing?" In the distance, she could hear the people protesting. At least this guy was handling it better. Amethyst didn't bother to stop her this time, either. These were, to her, both very good sins.

"Don't tell me to watch my f*cking language," Jess returns pretty casually, tilting her head back. "They're kids, they're gonna learn to swear eventually." She puts her hands on her hips and looks out the window. "Yeah... People have a lot of faith in the Guardians."
Guy looks back at Topaz, still smiling nervously. "I, uh, um... I don't know much more than you do, actually, not this specific topic. I don't even live in the city, I don't pass through it a lot, but there's the Guardians, right? Who are supposed to be looking after everything? What happened to them?" He laughs again. "I'm sorry, you wouldn't know, you're asking me!" He looks away.

Silver then gasps, coming to a conclusion. "Maybe.. their.. their time has come and they died of old age!" She says, shivering.

A couple of the younger kids were cracking up at the mention of the fabled "f-word." Hazel stared blankly at Jess for another few moments before finally giving up. "Alright, this'll... fix itself." She muttered, sighing. "Okay. I'll just have to..." Wait. She wasn't required to stick around if the store was busted, was she? "Um. S-Shoot." This was awful. She couldn't just leave so many kids surrounded by panicked citizens, and at least one who seemed to just enjoy making things difficult. "We'll pass the time until the lights come back on, then." "That's boring." One of the children grumbled. "Well, if it's not back on by sunset, we can go outside, then." Hazel glanced out the window, and noticed the start of what appeared to be a protest. It was going to be a very long night.
Topaz nodded, thoughtful. "So, we're not the only ones completely confused." "From the sound of it, everyone's confused." Amethyst said, gesturing to the town square, the area where most of the shouting seemed to be coming from. She flinched at the sound of something shattering. People were losing their minds. "For now, we should just..." "Hey, that's a light!" Topaz said suddenly, pointing at a blinking red dot on the wall of the alley. "Is that... a security camera?" Amethyst followed her gaze to what was, most certainly, a security cam. "I think they have backup generators... maybe." She couldn't help but feel suspicious, though.
"Perhaps." Mallory conceded, though she remained doubtful. After all, they'd been around for as long as anyone could remember... "Either way, I'm going to find my way out of here. Do you... um, want to come with me?"

"C'mon, kids, a candy shop isn't the worst place to be trapped, huh?" Jess hesitates. "Actually, wait, no, that came out wrong. Please do not steal this nice lady's candy, unless you're immortal you probably don't want to start a life of crime this young." She peers out the window then decides that she'd stay here, too, at least for now.
Guy follows her gaze to the light, and approaches it hesitantly. "If they had back-up generators, why wouldn't they just start up the more important things in the city? Unless it's running on its own, or it was a planned outage or something." He shakes his head. "I should just get out of the city before things get too chaotic..."

"I think that, 'cause we're stuck here, we should get free candy." One of the kids argued. Hazel, too tired to care, merely shrugged in reply. "Y'know what? Why not. The cash register's busted, anyway. If you guys are stuck in here, we might as well start with frozens, because they'll melt. I think theres some ice cream in the back." The children, distracted by the idea of free ice cream, cheered. That'd keep them occupied for a little while.
"D'you think the Guardians are watching us through there?" Topaz asked, pointing at the light. "I mean, who else could it be?" "Honestly, I have no idea what's going on." Amethyst admitted with a sigh. "Let's go with that, yeah. The Guardians. Maybe they're realizing they did something wrong."

"I need some candy.. that'll calm me down.." Silver mutters, and flies over to the candy shop, only to find the door locked. "Aw."

hey. my characters are Winnie, a 17 year old harpy with short blonde hair and a whole ton of acne, and Dri, a 12 year old kappa who's short but strong.
Winnie was in the town square, squished between the rows of people squealing in confusion and fright. ''UGHH.'' She sighed over-dramatically, as though she didn't give two hoots about the fact the Guardians were seemingly gone and the power was out - the entire crowd just irritated her with all their chirpy questions and mindless violence. She was pretty sure someone close to her had thrown something at someone else. Worried for her own safety, she took to the skies and tried to find a quieter place.
Dri, meanwhile, had been blending into the background at the candy shop the entire time somehow. He kept dripping water on to the floor, oh well, someone else would clean it up. Besides, there were bigger things to be concerned with, he thought as he curiously observed the conversation between the others in the shop.

"Ayy!" Jess points at Hazel and winks. "You're a good shopowner, I like you!" She follows the kids to the icecream, significantly taller than most of them.
Guy frowns at the camera and shakes his head, but didn't say anything else on the matter. He tugs his coat on his shoulders and looked down at the girls. "Are you two going to be okay? There's a lot of people out there, you might get hurt. I mean, I guess you could just stay here, nothing wrong with that!" he laughs.

"Someone wants in." A kid noted, opening the door to Silver and Mallory. Apparently, it was only locked to the outside. "Uh, hi!" Mallory looked down at the child, more surprised than anything. "Don't your parents tell you not to open the door for strangers?" "Well, nothing's really going like it should today." If Hazel noticed the new visitors, she made no sign of it. She noticed on the puddle on the floor, and made a mental note to look for a mop in the back. First things first, though: get some ice cream. There were... about a dozen and a half people. Could be worse. She grabbed some ice cream cups, and got to work. No sign of a mop. "This sucks." She mumbled, setting down the first tray of ice cream. She tried to force a smile for the kids. The sun would set soon enough, and when that happened, she'd have to take action...
Augustus's mother still hadn't returned home. He strained to remain calm, trying the door again, only to find it locked. "Oh, no." He mumbled. In his peripheral vision, he noticed the town square had lit up again. It was fire. Town square was on fire. What was going on?
"Sticking around here is probably better than-" Amethyst was cut off by what sounded like an explosion in town square. "... Y'know, that." "What're they doing?" Topaz asked, suddenly nervous. "Are people going all l-loopy already?" "Guess so. S-Sorry about this, really. Things're just..." Amethyst glanced back at the camera, as if it would have an answer. "Things're weird."

"Hi!" Silver says, walking in. "Something really weird is going on, I think the guardians died or something.." She says, fluttering her golden coloured wings.
