Note: Ok I was ultra bored, and I didn't know of anything to do so for the next few days or months I will be writing three short stories based on three characters, other than Tiger, that I don't give much, if any, back story to. The order will go from Smokey, Snow, and finally Frost. They will be five chapters minimum to ten maximum. Anyways....I hope you enjoy, and once I'm finished with them all tell me which one was your favorite X3 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Smokey's Curse
Chapter One: Daylight poured into a bedroom where a young boy slept. A clock in his room read 9:30 in the morning, and the boy was covering his face with the ruby red comforter he had covered over him. A few moments of silence go by when "creeek" his bedroom door is slowly opened, and a younger boy, and a Pichu sneaked into the room silently. The two then climbed onto the bed, and the small boy began to nudge the sleeping boy awake. "Smokey" the small boy said in a squeaky tone, "get up...you'll be late" he said softly. The older boy just grunted in annoyance, and turned over swiftly. The movement unbalanced the younger boy causing him to tumble backwards. The Pichu then grabbed onto the young boy's arm, and pulled him back.
"Ugh Tiger" Smokey began in an annoyed, and groggy tone as he didn't move from his position. "Do you have to wake me up" the boy said angrily.
"If I don't you'll be late for your adventure...come on" Tiger replied in small gunt. Smokey then felt his younger brother push him with all his strength to get him up.
"What if I don't want to be a trainer" Smokey retorted in an annoyed huff. He then sat up, and looked into his younger brother's emerald green eyes.
The smaller boy blinked in shock, his mouth was now gaping open "wh...why would you say that!? I thought you wanted to be a trainer?" his younger brother blurted out.
Smokey just shrugged, his smoke gray eyes showed nothing. "Well ever since Dad joined Ro...err joined Ross, and Matt for a journey a few months after he gave you Pichu. I have been thinking it'd be dangerous" he sighed. He didn't like the memory that replayed in his nightmares when his father abandoned him, and Tiger almost three years ago.
I swear if he even chooses to show up again I will attack him. I don't need pokemon to help me kick his butt. Smokey thought to himself resenting how his father had left for Team Rocket all those years ago. He then sighed, and closed his eyes as the memories of that day replayed in his mind like a bad song.
He was then pushed out of his thoughts as he felt Tiger prodding him in the arm curiously. "Hmmm" Tiger began he was acting like a professor as he poked Smokey in the arm.
"What are you doing?" Smokey asked withholding an annoyed grunt.
"Checking" Tiger began with his same amused tone.
"For?"
"To see if you're broken....Pichu do you think Smokey's broken" Tiger squeaked mischievously.
"Pichu Pichu PI!" Pichu said in the same amused tone. Smokey just growled in annoyance. He looked at the Pichu.
Frost gave him to Tiger, and I should be accepting of this pokemon that loves my brother..., but I just hate it for who it's original trainer is. Smokey growled as he thought to himself.
"Are you okay?" Tiger asked in a more concerning tone. He was now sitting mere inches from Smokey. His green eyes were clouded with worry.
"I'm fine you little runt!" Smokey finally said as he was no longer able to control his anger. He then shoved Tiger off the bed in annoyance. Why can't he understand what Frost has done to me....done to mom... he began with a pant. He then sighed what he's done to Tiger... he began and looked up. Pichu was now growling angrily, and Smokey could hear his brother crying from the floor. What have I done to Tiger!? He thought to himself in a shocked state. He then looked over his bed, and saw his brother running out of his room with Pichu behind him. I'm suppose to be protecting him....not hurting him Smokey thought to himself in a shocked tone. He then sighed, and decided to hide from the world by going under the covers once more.
-------
A few hours went by, and it was noon. Smokey was still hiding in his room. He hadn't heard his brother walking close to his door in a while. He then closed his eyes and sighed I shouldn't have snapped at Tiger... He began to himself as he reflected in what he did. It was unfair to him to treat him that way, and to just... he sighed and cut his thought off. Tiger just looks so much like Frost...and he has Pichu. Is that why I was so short with him? He thought to himself he was then pulled out of his thoughts when he heard a knock at the door.
Smokey looked up, and saw Tiger slowly walk into the open door. Has he come because he forgives me... Smokey thought to himself hopefully. He then opened his mouth to speak "Tiger I'm sor-" he began but was cut off.
"Mom wants you" Tiger said lowly, and turned away. The hostile tone in his words were making Smokey feel uneasy. He just nodded, and got up. He then followed Tiger out of the bedroom.
Once out of the room, Smokey looked up, and saw his mom sitting in the living room. Her smoke gray eyes were glowing with both disappointment, and sorrow. Her brown hair was shining dimly in the noon light, Smokey then sat down in the blue chair he usually sat in when he watched tv. He then blinked, and looked at his mom "Tiger said you wanted to see me?" He asked softly.
His mom nodded "yes....I heard the fight you had with Tiger and I-"she began, but Smokey cut her off.
"I...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap I jus-" he began pitifully when his mom cut him off.
"I think it's best if you went on your journey, Smokey. You obviously have some bottled up anger, and hatred for Frost, and I think it's best this way..." she began softly.
"You're kicking me out!? What if Tiger needs me" he began he was then cut off when his mom replied sternly.
"You aren't even there for Tiger now." She began quietly, but before Smokey could protest she continued. "You blame Tiger, and his Pichu for Frost leaving, and you constantly snap at him when he tries to get close to you. Smokey until you show some maturity you will not be able to talk to Tiger like you use to...." she continued sadly. "Before Frost left, you, and Tiger were best friends. Now that he's" she began quietly. The next part seemed forced as she spoke "...gone..." she said quietly, and closed her eyes. "You seem to treat your younger brother as if he has a Joltik climbing around him" she said sadly.
Smokey looked away, and sighed. He then closed his eyes. Have I been that rude to Tiger...I thought I was protecting him, but I'm just pushing him away... he thought to himself with a heavy heart.
"Please just try and go on a pokemon journey, Smokey. That way you can forget about what happened to Frost, and that way you can grow close to Tiger once more. Until then..." she trailed off.
Smokey nodded, and sighed. He then got to his feet, and went for the door. "I promise you I will learn to accept Pichu, and Tiger" he said softly. He was about to leave when Pichu came running up to Smokey. He then handed the older boy a book. On the cover was a Lugia, and a boy. Smokey then froze. "This is.." he began. He then saw Tiger standing next to the door on the outside.
"Yes...it's my favorite book" Tiger began in a bitter tone. Pichu then climbed to Tiger's shoulder gently. "Pichu suggested that I let you take it...that way....that way you have something to read at night" he finished, Smokey could hear a sad tone in his voice.
Smokey nodded, "I promise you I'll take good care of it" Smokey said softly, and went to give Tiger a hug before he left. He was then shocked as his younger brother turned away from him, and walked away to Lion's house. Smokey then sighed, and closed the door behind him. He put Tiger's book in his bag, and went toward the lab for his starter Will Tiger forgive me for my anger? Or am I cursed to have all my family members turn against me. He thought to himself with a sad sigh. He then went into the lab, and took his first steps as a trainer.

(Writing chapter two because Asgore keeps kicking my butt two turns in..) --------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 2: A few weeks into his journey, Smokey was training his Totodile, Chomp, near Violet City for the gym. The pokemon was using a tackle on a bellsprout that was hidden in the field of tall grass next to the town's gate. Smokey could smell the scents of rain from last night as he stood in the route. He then saw a small cave in the distance as Chomp slid back from the Bellsprout. "Chomp hang in there, and use a bite" Smokey said quickly. His pokemon nodded, and ran up to Bellsprout with a bite. As the pokemon ran the Bellsprout slithered out of the way, and dodged the move expertly. Smokey then sighed as Chomp was hit with another vine whip. The small Totodile then fell into the ground, and was now covered with mud. Smokey sighed, and decided it was enough training for the day. He recalled Chomp, and fled the wild battle. He then turned to the gate leading to Violet City, as he did so his pokegear began to ring.
"Who in the name of Arceus is calling me this late" Smokey said softly, and noticed it was already dark outside. He could see the stars forming in the sky over head, that would explain why Chomp was missing a few moves...that Bellsprout is swift, and the darkness would be the worst to fight in... he thought to himself, and shook the thought away. He then looked at his pokegear, and saw his mom was calling. "Oh it's mom" Smokey said surprised. He then sighed happily, maybe I can talk to her, and Tiger. I mean Tiger turned five yesterday, and I forgot to call him. Smokey thought to himself before answering the pokegear. "Hello" he began cheerfully.
"Smokey? Oh thank Arceus I got a hold of you" the relieved, and worried tone of his mom's voice came through the speaker.
Smokey was now confused, he then blinked. "What's wrong. Why are you so worried" he asked in a concerned tone.
He then flinched as he heard his mom cry "T...Tiger went missing? He went out with Elm, and Lion today, and he was lost. I...I knew I shouldn't have trusted the professor when he said he was taking them out to Viridian forest, but Tiger insisted on le-" she began frantically. Smokey was trying to understand what his mom was saying.
"Okay, okay slow down. Where did Tiger go missing again?" Smokey asked his tone was now deeply filled with concern. He shivered not from the cold October air, but from the feeling of dread, and worry that overcame him.
"Viridian forest. The professor allowed the boys to go look for Caterpie, and Weedle, but Lion was stuck in a thorn bush, and Elm turned his back on Tiger to help him. After that.." she trailed off sadly.
Smokey then nodded, and looked at the map on his pokegear, "I'll head out to Viridian forest right away" he said gently.
"But your journey, Smokey you need to-"
"I don't need to do anything. If my brother is hurt, or......worse...then I need to help him..." Smokey interrupted and hung up. He then looked at the pokegear, and created a path in his mind to get to Viridian faster. He then turned his back on Violet City, and began to head for Cherrygrove once more.
---------------------------------------------------
Days went by, and Smokey was walking through Viridian City. He looked at Chomp, who was now a Croconaw, and walked in silence. Elm, and Lion were no help when I asked about Tiger. Makes me wonder why we allow Elm to be the professor when he can't protect a five year old. Smokey thought bitterly, and shook the thought away. "I can't be bitter about this...I must stay determined if I'm to find Tiger" he said softly. Chomp nodded, and looked up. He then stopped near a ledge where the pokemon center stood nearby. Smokey blinked, and sighed. "Alright I'll heal you up before we get into the forest, but we must keep going after this" Smokey said gently to the pokemon. Chomp nodded, and ran into the pokemon center with Smokey behind him.
As Smokey entered the pokemon center, and handed the pokemon to Joy he listened in to a conversation. "Dude did you hear about the two giant birds fighting in the forest a few days ago" one of them asked in shock. Smokey then looked ahead, and continued to listen in.
"Yeah no one saw the fight, but Oak said he heard two legendary birds screeching, and yelling"
"Wow...who do you think they were?"
"Maybe Zapdos, and Articuno. They love to fight near the forest"
"But the finishing attack was a fire move that was seen from Pallet? Maybe it was Moltres"
"Either way...I'd hate to be caught up in that. Good thing the water pokemon used a move to rid the forest of fire"
Smokey was about to ask the trainers what the fight was about when they left the area. He then sighed, and shook his head clear. That fight possibly had nothing to do with him... Smokey thought to himself as he tried to take comfort in his thoughts. He was then pulled out of the thought as he heard the doors to the treating room open.
"Smokey? Your pokemon is fighting fit" Joy said softly. Smokey walked over, and saw Joy bow in respectively. "We hope to see you again" she said cheerfully. He then grabbed the pokeball, and nodded a thanks before walking outside.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After buying some random items from the shop, and being forced to watch the old man capture a Weedle. Smokey walked out of Viridian City. I will only come back if my supplies are low...if I can manage to find Tiger soon everything will be alright. Smokey thought with a sigh. He then walked through the gate, and into the forest. At first Smokey was overcome by how tall the trees were. They were so tall that they covered the sky creating a sort of permanent dusk setting. As he took a step forward he heard his foot steps crunching dead, and dried up leaves behind him. He then saw a few Metapod, and Kakuna hanging from the trees, and Pidgey flying after the Caterpie that tried to hide under the leaf mold.
Smokey then blinked, and shook his head clear as he tried to get a grip of his surroundings. I'm not here to explore...I need to find my brother, and bring him home before he is lost forever. Smokey thought to himself, and went off.
A few hours go by as Smokey walks all he hears is the sound of wind, and his footsteps. He then shivered as the sun began to set, or so he thought it did because the forest grew darker, and more menacing. Smokey then flinched, and shook the fear away from him. "I'm a trainer now, not a kid...I need to be brave" Smokey said softly. He then looked at Chomp. The water pokemon was now looking more, and more exhausted. "Hey bud...let's stop for the night....it'll be easier to see where we're going in the morning" Smokey said gently. Chomp nodded, and collapsed from exhaustion once Smokey said those words.
Smokey sighed, and sat down next to the campfire he built. He then looked at the sky, and sighed. The stars were barely visible under the canopy of trees, but he saw a few of them as he sat there. He then closed his eyes, and knew he was unable to sleep. "I hope Tiger is alright" Smokey said at last, but deep down inside he knew it wasn't true. He then shook away the sick feeling he had. As he closed his eyes he had a flashback from when he was just starting his journey. The memory of his brother crying pierced through him more than the cold chill in the air. I hope if I do find Tiger. He won't be to upset with what I have done back then... He sighed as he thought to himself, he then looked at the fire. That is if I do find him...

(And now Flowey is killing me...Asgore killed me 8 times, and Flowey has already killed me twice...) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Chapter 3: The sound of dripping, and the drum of rain gently hitting the tree tops is woke Smokey up from his sleep. He yawned, and sat up, the boy then glanced over to Chomp, who was comfortably wrapped in a blanket that Smokey kept. The young trainer then sighed "it's been months since I first arrived here, maybe I should give up...we would have found him by now..." he said bitterly. He looked at his pokegear, and sighed "in fact it's almost been a year..." he trailed off. His Croconaw then opened one eye, and sat up. His blue scales were glimmering as he was soaked by the rain water. The pokemon then blinked, and went to Smokey's bag.
Croconaw then grabbed something from the bag, and went over to Smokey. "Hey buddy what do you have there" Smokey said gently to the pokemon.
"Croc Croco-naw" Chomp said softly, and handed him a familiar looking book. Once Smokey grabbed it he could see the familiar cover of the Lugia, and the boy. He then sighed as Chomp sat closer to him with wide eyes.
Smokey closed his eyes, and sighed. I promised I'd keep good care of this book...what if I don't get to read it to Tiger anymore..... he thought to himself darkly, and sighed. No I have to protect this book, and keep it on me as a sort of memory to Tiger...if he is...gone...then I need to keep this book safe. He finished the thought with a sigh, and felt Chomp nudge his hand gently. The boy then looked down to the wide eyed pokemon.
"You want me to read this to you?" Smokey asked gently. The pokemon nodded gleefully. Smokey then sighed, and opened up the book.
The first page of the book had a picture on it. The picture was of the ocean, and a few Lapras, Totodile, and Dratini swimming on the surface. In the distance was a sunset, and the words that began the story. "A long time ago the ocean was a home for every pokemon. The Magikarp lived in peace with the Gyarados, and the pokemon barely fought" Smokey began softly. He then flipped the page.
The next page was a bit darker with pokemon battling humans along the ocean shore. The water had an ominous shine to it, and the clouds now covered the sun. There were pokemon injured on the page, and humans looming over them with pokeballs in their hand. "Soon a war broke out, and the humans attacked the pokemon. Many were captured, and many were hurt" Smokey said there was sadness in his tone as he flipped the page.
The third page was filled with just the ocean. The ominous glow became stronger in this page, and there was a Lugia above the ocean. It was towering over a group of humans. The Lugia was glaring with glowing eyes at the group. "Then Lugia emerged from the water, and went to the humans. He said that he will curse the region of Johto until one human can prove they are worthy of defeating Lugia in battle, and collecting the silver wing" Smokey trailed off.
The forth page was a picture of Johto. "The curse was a drought that lasted ten long years. Many plants had died out, but the pokemon were safe by a forest located in the Kanto region. This forest helps pokemon heal, and keeps them safe. It is unable to be seen or reached by humans" Smokey continued softly, and looked around the forest. Is this the forest in the book? Probably not...after all this is a kids story... Smokey thought to himself with a sigh.
The next page was of a small boy. He was completely surrounded in shadows, and had a black cloak which was covering his head, and facial features, he was facing Lugia with a Typhlosion standing firmly next to him. The Typhlosion had a blue bandanna tied around his neck. "Then after countless trainers tried, and failed at battling Lugia, a boy who had been so close to pokemon that he learned how to speak to the creatures. He went to Lugia, and challenged the legendary to battle."
Smokey looked at the last few pages, and sighed why did Tiger like this story so much... he thought to himself with a sigh. He then looked at the next page it was a still of a pokemon battle. Typhlosion was using a flamethrower, and Lugia was using an aero blast. Their moves collided in the middle of the page. "The fight lasted for a full day. By the end the boy couldn't defeat Lugia. Though the Lugia was about to finish off the Typhlosion when the boy ran in the way of the finishing blow. Lugia saw this, and stopped rampaging at once" Smokey said darkly.
This page had Lugia towering over the mysterious boy. The Lugia was holding a silver wing out to the boy. "Even though the boy didn't defeat Lugia in battle, he still gave the item to the trainer. Lugia spoke once more 'even if you never defeated me in battle, you have shown that humans, and pokemon can live in peace'"
The second to last page was of a forest that Smokey had never seen. The trainer, and Lugia were now in the air. The trainer was on a Pidgeot while Lugia was gliding above the sky "Lugia brought rain back to Johto with his ability, and together the trainer, and Lugia created peace around the region, and bringing pokemon, and people together"
The final page was of the trainer, and his Typhlosion in the forest with pokemon all around him. There was a shore line in the distance, and the water behind it was shining signifying Lugia was there. "The ban on humans in the hidden forest was risen, on one condition. No trainer was allowed to attack, or capture the pokemon of the forest, as it were suppose to be a sanctuary for all pokemon. The trainer agreed, and the world lived in peace once more" Smokey finished the book, and closed it once more. He then sighed, and looked at Chomp who nodded solemnly.
"Come on we'll never find Tiger if we continue reading fairy tales" Smokey said softly, he then followed Chomp until the pokemon saw a small area in the forest that was burnt, the trees were slowly growing back in this part of the forest, and Smokey saw a tattered and burnt hat. "What is.." he began, and went over to the cap. He then instantly recognized it. "I...It's Tiger's!" Smokey exclaimed in shock.
He then closed his eyes, and began to have dark visions of a fire type pokemon attacking his brother, and hurting him. What if Tiger was reduced to ash....ugh then my last memory of him would be of him still being upset at me for being mean to him... Smokey thought in alarm. He then shook the thought away the best he could. As he did so he looked at Chomp. "Let's keep going" Smokey said softly.
Chomp looked uncertain, but nodded. The two then began to walk deeper into the forest. Once the sun began to set, Smokey yawned. He hadn't slept much the night before due to the rain. He then looked over, and saw a small clearing where he and Chomp could rest. "Come on. Let's get some rest, we'll continue in the morning..." Smokey said in defeat. Chomp nodded, and sat down in the dirt.
As the night dragged on Smokey looked into the campfire, and sighed. He managed to sleep a little bit before waking up in shock as nightmares haunted him of his brother being hurt. He then closed his eyes, and sighed I would do anything in my power to know Tiger was safe... Smokey thought to himself with a sigh. He was about to go to sleep once more when he heard whispering just above him. "Who's there" Smokey said in shock, and looked up. Upon looking up an apple fell down from a nearby tree. Smokey growled and went to confront the pokemon that did that, when he froze. Behind him, where the apple was dropped, was a huge wall of boulders. The sides of the boulders were slick, and smooth. They weren't climbable to anyone who came close to them. Smokey then blinked, and looked up he then heard a growl from the other side of the boulder. Then a familiar voice came from the other side as if someone was watching him from the infinite darkness of the abandoned part of the forest. "Human! You shouldn't be here, or near the rock barrier" the voice said angrily. Smokey then froze is that Tiger!? It sounds like him, but I can't tell.....what should I do? He thought to himself swiftly, he then sighed "fine I will leave, but I don't promise you that I won't return. I'm looking for my brother, and if he's somewhere in the unknown forest then I will find a way over this wall, and no child of the forest will tell me otherwise" Smokey said firmly.
A few heartbeats went by making it feel like years, the voice then seemed to have taken a moment to respond. The tone of his voice was dark, but concerned as he spoke "you'll regret it if you do. The pokemon here are more dangerous, and unwelcoming of unknown humans than you know. They aren't your typical trainer ready pokemon" the boy warned, and before Smokey could object he heard the trees rustle on the other side of the cliff wall. He then sighed, and looked at Chomp who was still asleep. Friendly or not...I will climb that wall, or find out a way over it, and I will find my brother... he thought to himself with a sigh, and closed his eyes.

Chapter 4: The sun was beginning to rise sending a chill through Smokey as he stared at the wall of boulders. He looked to the left, and right, and saw the wall of rocks on both sides didn't let up. He then sighed, and looked around. He then saw a tree that almost went to the top of the rock. He then looked over to Chomp, who gave a disapproving shake of his head. Smokey just sighed, and returned his pokemon.
The crunch of the leaves were faintly sounding under Smokey's feet. He then stopped at the base of the tree, and looked up. The tree was dark green, and they had thick branches growing in it he then followed the direction the branches were growing. He then saw that the tree branches were stretching out in all directions he then nodded, and followed the branch that almost led to the top of the rock wall. He then nodded, and began to stumble up the tree shakily. As he reached the top he saw the leaves of the tree tops continuously stretching out into the horizon. He then saw Viridian, and Pewter City in the distance at both edges of the forest. He blinked, and panted as he tried to get his breath back. He then brushed a leaf off his shoulder, and slowly stalked across the branch. As he neared the edge of the tree branch he could see into the uncharted forest.
The forest was dark, and filled with the sounds of pokemon There were no traces of humans, and no traces of his brother. Smokey then measured up the distance from the branch he was in, and the top of the rock wall. He then jumped out of the tree, the green of Viridian forest was blurring around him as he attempted to make the jump. He then fell short, and saw the side of the slick rock coming for him. He then flinched, and closed his eyes when something snatched his shirt collar. "I got you" the voice from the night before grunted lowly, and pulled Smokey onto the rock's summit.
Smokey opened his eyes, and saw a young boy. He was wearing tattered, and burned clothing. His emerald eyes were shimmering with concern, but had a sort of new found strength, and experience hinted in them. A Cyndaquil was sitting on his right side protectively. Smokey then flinched as he saw a flame patterned scar stretching from his shoulder, where the sleeve of his red shirt had been burnt away,to his elbow. The boy seemed to notice Smokey flinch. He then hid his injured arm awkwardly behind his back. Cyndaquil was growling at Smokey in both anger, and distrust.
"T...Tiger?" Smokey asked in a shaky voice.
The boy nodded, and looked at his Cyndaquil. The pokemon then looked confused. "Cyndaquil Cynda Quil-Cyn?" he asked questioningly.
Tiger just nodded "yeah he's my brother" he said softly. Cyndaquil then nodded, and crept closer to Smokey, he then sniffed the older boy, and growled as he took a step backwards. Tiger then grabbed the pokemon, and hugged him. "It's alright bud. Smokey won't hurt you" he began gently. His tone then shifted as he glared at Smokey with an angry expression. "What in the name of Arceus are you doing here" Tiger asked in a hostile, and concerned tone.
Is he really not happy to see me!? Did I upset him that much when I left...ugh I shouldn't have... he began to think to himself in shock. Tiger then shook him from his thoughts when he stood up, and seemed to reply to a Machop's voice.
"I'm fine, Lee! I'm just sending a trespasser off" the young boy stated softly. He then looked back at Smokey. "Well" he asked.
"I....I was err...l..looking for you" Smokey said slightly unnerved by the fact that Tiger was seemingly talking to pokemon. He then looked at his brother, and saw that he was looking away with a guilty look on his face.
"I'm sorry I put everyone through my disappearance, but I need to stay here and-" he began, but was cut off.
"No Tiger you don't need to stay you need to come home with me" Smokey said hesitantly. He was afraid for his brother's safety, and was afraid of what had attacked him in the past.
Tiger then growled "I am not going with you. I may be a child, but I won't listen to you" he said angrily.
Smokey was taken aback by Tiger's attitude. He looked at his younger brother, and flinched "you don't understand you will be killed out here" he snapped. He then glared at the young boy.
Tiger didn't respond he just looked into the uncharted forest, and growled. As he got to his feet he jumped into a tree. Smokey froze as he watched his younger brother flee. The Cyndaquil then followed his friend closely. Smokey blinked in shock, and looked at the ground on the other side. He then sighed, and jumped into the unknown forest to follow his brother.
------------------------------------------------
Smokey was hiding in the shadows of the strange forest. He felt something watching him as he followed the falling leaves of his brother's skilled climbing. As he followed them he saw a cave just ahead. Tiger then jumped to the ground, and looked around sharply. He then walked into the cave. Smokey was about to follow when a shiny Vulpix tackled, and forced Smokey to the ground. She was barking angrily as he pinned Smokey down. The trainer then blinked in shock, and reached for a pokeball to capture the shiny. As he pulled the ball out the pokemon turned to the cave, and barked "Vulpix Vul!" swiftly.
Smokey then felt a bite on his hand that held the pokeball. He then saw a Ninetales growling protectively, and pushing the Vulpix back. "Ninetales? Nine Tales Nine!" she barked angrily to the trainer. Smokey then froze. What do I do!? This Ninetales must be the mother of this Vulpix, but I have to get past if they're holding my brother hostage somehow Smokey thought to himself as he was paralyzed by fear.
The vine door to the cave then began to shake, and Tiger walked out. He then blinked in shock "Kit, Tally stop please" Tiger said in shock, and pulled the Ninetales away gently. She didn't seem to know what was going on at first, and the Ninetales bit Tiger's arm. The boy then growled in shock, and pain, but didn't respond violently. Instead he took his free arm and pet the Ninetales calmly.
"Tales!? Ninetales Nine" Kit said in shock, and let Tiger go. She then nuzzled Tiger, and looked at Smokey. She then growled with hostility shining in her brown eyes, and looked back at Tiger.
"Why did you follow me? Don't you know it's dangerous over here. Especially with a trainer who captures pokemon" Tiger said lowly, and grabbed the pokeball.
Smokey blinked "Dangerous? And you're still insisting on staying" Smokey said lowly. "you have to catch pokemon when you're a trainer. It's what you do" Smokey growled lowly.
"Not in this forest you don't. Tally is Kit's daughter, and Kit wouldn't want Tally to be forced to go with you. All trainers who have come here have stolen pokemon from their homes, and betray his trust" Tiger said sternly.
Is Tiger really telling me about how this forest works.... Smokey thought in shock. He then shook his head clear, and sighed "I'm sorry" he said softly, and watched as Tiger put the pokeball that Kit had taken from him away.
Tiger nodded, and looked over to Kit "So what should I do with him? He's my brother, and I can't allow him to stay out here after dark" he said he had the same concerned tone he always had when Smokey and him lived at home in Newbark.
Kit looked like she was thinking for a moment "Tales Ninetales Nine" the Ninetales said softly.
Tiger nodded "yeah you're right...I'll bring him to Lugia" he said softly, and looked at Smokey who was looking at the two in disbelief. Is this some sort of trick!? Smokey thought darkly. He then felt Tiger nudge him into the den quickly.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tiger led Smokey to the back of the cave. Smokey looked around the dark den, and saw vines across the ceiling, and walls of the den. There was a pool of water at the very end of the cave, and it had the scent of the ocean by it. A tunnel to the ocean? Smokey thought to himself he then watched as Tiger stopped near the water. The water then began to ripple, and there was two glowing orbs of light in the deepest part of the pool. Smokey then took a step back in shock, and disbelief as Lugia's head poked out from the water.
"Hmmm. Tiger you have brought your brother here" Lugia said gently. He was using telepathy so Smokey could understand him.
"He tried to jump the barrier...he almost hurt himself. So I made a mistake of pulling him up" Tiger said and looked away.
Lugia just nodded "it wasn't your fault. Smokey has been searching for you for a while now. Why don't you both just go back to Kit's den, and rest. We will decide what to do about Smokey in the morning" Lugia said softly, and smiled at Tiger.
Tiger nodded, and turned to Smokey "Come on Smokey let's get back to Kit's den. I'm exhausted" he said softly.
"Alright" Smokey nodded, and looked at Lugia still in disbelief "thank you" he said to the legend respectfully.
Lugia nodded in response, "don't worry about your brother so much. I've been keeping an eye on him, and he's grown past the state of his mind from when you were living in Newbark. Though don't think he's coming with you yet. He has a lot to learn still" the legend said sternly, and dived back into the pool of water once more.
Though don't think he's coming with you yet. He has a lot to learn still. The words rang in Smokey's mind as he heard Tiger call his name from the exit of the cave. Smokey then followed his younger brother out of the den, and toward the den to the left that Kit, and Tally had walked to earlier. Tiger is already more mature than me...maybe I was wrong to see him as Frost...but where is Pichu. I haven't seen him since I began my journey.

Huh this might finish up sooner than I thought XD. Maybe I'll have Smokey's story done within 7 chapters, though I'm unsure about the title. Any suggestions on a new name for it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 5 Light poured into the cave by a hole in the side of the wall. The scent of moss, and leaves were fresh in the air as dew clung to the greenery in the cave. Smokey sat up, and yawned. At first he was confused on where he was, and how he had gotten there. He usually camped near a tree, or a river to avoid disturbing resident pokemon who resided in caves. He then remembered the events of last night, and how he had seen Lugia. Tiger has a lot of explaining to do. He thought to himself, and looked around the cave. It was completely empty, the only hint that anyone had been there was a small clearing in the center of the cave, where a campfire was set up. The sticks on the inside were still red with embers from the fire, and there was a strange carved out wooden bucket that had been both burnt, and rotted away by fire, and water. Smokey then sighed, and got to his feet, and walked outside.
Once outside Smokey could hear Tiger's voice as well as the voice of the Ninetales from last night. Smokey then took a step forward, and saw Tiger, and the Ninetales examining berries, and revival herbs. Smokey then saw the Cyndaquil, and Vulpix playing nearby. Cyndaquil went near the river, and Tiger called out a warning to the small fire pokemon. The pokemon then jumped back, and ran in the opposite direction of the river back to Vulpix. "I see you finally decided to wake up" Tiger said softly. He didn't look up from the berry he was holding. It was pink, and sort of triangular. It had a spikey green leaf at the base of the triangle pattern. "Uhh this is a....hmmm. Oran berries are blue, Sitrus is yellow. This has to be a Pecha berry. Which can cure poison, right?" Tiger said shifting his attention to the Ninetales.
"Tales Nine" the pokemon replied in a satisfied tone. She then got to her paws, and nudged Tiger away, "Ninetales tales ninetales?" she said softly, and nodded to Smokey, who was watching from the shade of an apple tree.
Tiger nodded, and let Ninetales take the Vulpix away. The two then went toward the cave silently, Vulpix cast one last look at the others. Tiger then walked over to Smokey, Cyndaquil was on his shoulder once more. "Alright. We need to bring you home" Tiger said softly. "Or at least out of this forest..." he finished quietly.
"So does this mean you're coming home with me?" Smokey asked his hopes were rising as Tiger spoke.
Tiger then shook his head simply "No. I'm not coming home yet..."
"Why not!?" Smokey said swiftly as he felt like someone just punched him in the side of the head.
"Because I'm needed here" Tiger responded softly.
"No you're not. You're needed back home. Mom is worried, and Elm.." Smokey said, and was cut off.
"I can't go home yet" Tiger said, and looked away sharply. Smokey could see a hint of guilt in his eyes.
"Why not?"
"Because I still have a lot to learn here. I only recently mastered tree climbing, and I almost mastered berry, and herb uses"
So that's what Tiger was doing with kit...personally I don't know which berries are which, but Tiger seemed to have no trouble with knowing it was a Pecha berry... Smokey thought to himself, and thought about how everyone at home was worried about him. "Everyone is worried sick about you" Smokey continued,
"Then you'll have to go home, and tell them I'll be home soon...I'm not saying this because I don't want to go home. I can't go home. Not yet anyway" Tiger said gently, but with a hint of annoyance in his tone.
"Why not? You can bring your new Cyndaquil friend, and I'm sure Pichu would..." Smokey said quickly, and stopped as he saw his brother look down, tears began to form in his eyes as Smokey mentioned the small electric pokemon that Tiger had received from their father all those years ago.
"I...I can't go home. I can't face knowing that Pichu..." Tiger began, and it seemed like every word was forced out of him.
"What happened" Smokey asked gently. Tiger then looked over at Smokey, and sighed. He then looked up to the sky before he spoke.
"Pichu...was...st..stol...stolen from me" Tiger said quietly. Every word seemed to be dragged from him.
"Stolen? By whom?" Smokey asked gently.
Tiger then closed his eyes, and sighed heavily. Cyndaquil was glaring at Smokey defensively as if the small fire pokemon didn't like how Smokey was asking Tiger to explain what happened. "Da....Frost stole him...He had another boy with him. I couldn't get a good look at him, but he called Frost, dad." Tiger said quietly.
"Frost!?" Smokey said in shock. He then felt sick as if he couldn't stand the thought of what Tiger said. That jerk took Pichu back from Tiger, and he gave it to some kid....question is. Is this kid really related to us... Smokey thought to himself with a sigh. "I'm sorry to hear that...but why can't you come home. Surely everyone at home can help you get Pichu back, or at least help you feel a bit better about loosing him..." Smokey sad soothingly.
Tiger looked away. "It's not their problem I lost Pichu, and it's not their problem if I go home, and Ho-Oh attacks....it's mine, and I need to learn how to survive if Ho-Oh were to attack me, or Lugia again" he said quietly, and got up.
"Wait Ho-Oh!?" Smokey said shocked as he tried to figure out how much trouble Tiger had gotten into, but before Tiger could respond he jumped into a tree, and ran off silently. "Tiger wait up!" Smokey said and ran after the younger boy. Tiger then vanished into the leaves of the trees overhead.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sun was at the highest point by the time Smokey made it to a beach area. He then saw Tiger sitting a little ways off. He was looking in the direction of Mount Silver, and in the direction of Johto. "Hey I'm sorry about earlier. I didn't" Smokey began.
Tiger glanced over to Smokey his emerald eyes giving nothing away as he stared at his older brother plainly. "You didn't know it's alright" he said quietly.
Smokey nodded, and sat down next to Tiger. "do you miss home?" he asked softly
Tiger looked over, "at times, but I can't leave yet" he said gently.
Smokey nodded "I won't force you to come home, but promise me you'll make it home in one piece. I don't want to come back here, and face plant into a boulder just to see you again" he said half jokingly.
Tiger smiled, and stifled a small laugh. He then hugged Smokey "I'm sorry for being annoying back home, and changing..a lot...here" he said softly. "I just need to stay here, and learn the ways of a pokemon" he began. Smokey was going to retort, but Tiger swiftly interrupted him. "I know I'm not a pokemon, but Lugia wants me to become stronger. That way I won't be like most trainers. Who watch fights from the background, but if I'm in trouble, or Team Rocket attacks once more I can fight along side them" he explained kindly.
Smokey nodded hollowly, and blinked. Lugia wants to train Tiger in the ways of a pokemon? It seems insane, but he's learnt a bit since he dissapeared. Who am I to make him come home... Smokey thought with a sigh. "I'm sorry I was short....and I'm not going to force you to go home" Smokey began softly. He then turned to the trees once more, and looked in the direction of the rock wall that was hidden by an endless sea of trees. "I'll just go back home, and explain that I didn't find you. You come back on your own time" Smokey said softly.
"Thank you" Tiger said softly, and smiled. Smokey nodded, and headed back towards Viridian forest. Once Tiger was out of site he sighed, and wiped a few tears away. He then ran toward the rocky wall when he heard a growl.
Smokey looked up, and saw an Incineroar, and a Gengar. The two were growling angrily, and one laughed. "Gengar Gen? Gen Gen Gengar" the Gengar said lowly.
The Incineroar nodded, and bared its teeth at Smokey. "Incineroar Incin eroa. ROAR!" the incineroar yelled.
Smokey blinked, and froze. I'm outnumbered, and I can't win....it's over... Smokey thought to himself in shock, and took a step back. He was then surrounded by a Machamp, Shiftry, and an Alakazam. The five pokemon looked angry, and were all about to attack Smokey. "Five.....Five verses one isn't fair" Smokey said feebly. He then was knocked over by a karate chop from the Machamp.
(Don't kill me for the cliff hanger. I want chapter six to be mainly the climax, and seven will be the wrap up)

(ok cliff hanger, and short hiatus is over. I'll make the final chapter either tomorrow, or Friday/Saturday) Chapter 6
Smokey stumbled back from the karate chop. He looked at the Machamp, his gray eyes were filled with shock, and fear. He sat up, and backed up. "L...listen. I was just on my way out...I won't stea-" he began, but he was soon knocked sideways by a shadow ball.
"Gengar Gen!" Gengar yelled angrily, and snarled. His red eyes were filled with hatred toward Smokey.
Smokey then looked at the Shiftry, and noticed a look of concern. "Please stop! I was just talking to my brother, Tiger" he continued to try, and reason with the pokemon.
The Machamp stopped, and looked at the Shiftry. The Alakazam then snarled "Kazam! Alaka!" he yelled, and used a psychic throwing Smokey into the air.
Just before Smokey hit the ground, the Shiftry grabbed him, and pushed him back onto solid ground safely. Smokey looked up in shock, and saw the Machamp, and Shiftry standing in front of him. These must be friend's of Tiger's Smokey said to himself, and looked at the two pokemon. He then growled as the Alakazam, Incineroar, and Gengar all prepared to fight the Machamp, and Shiftry. Two against three is a bit more fair, but Machamp has a huge weakness to Alakazam, and Shiftry will be burned if he tried to beat Incineroar. he thought to himself. He then got to his feet, and grabbed Chomp's pokeball. As he did so the Gengar screeched in anger once more.
Smokey blinked, and dropped his pokeball as Alakazam used a psychic on him once more. He then forced the pokeball from his hand, and floated it back to him. "Alakazam Alaka?" he growled.
"Tree Shiftry" the Shiftry yelled angrily.
"Kazam Alakazam"
Smokey sighed, and looked on in confusion as the two pokemon argued. Alakazam then used a psycho cut on Shiftry making him faint. The Machamp then ran over to Alakazam with a cross chop. Smokey knew well it wouldn't be effective on the psychic pokemon, but he encouraged the pokemon to go on. He then froze as the Gengar got in the line of the cross chop, and was uneffected from the fighting move. The ghost pokemon then used a shadow ball causing the Machamp to slide across the forest floor, like a lost trainer in the Ice Path. He then ran over to the Machamp, as he was halfway to the struggling pokemon Alakazam stopped him. Smokey slithered backward, and growled. "Leave Machamp alone" he yelled.
"Kazam? Alaka Alakazam!" Alakazam yelled angrily, and sneered. He then used psychic causing the fighting pokemon to struggle. He was about to throw Machamo when a flamethrower shot out of the bushed.
"Hey! Leave them alone, Alakazam" Tiger yelled at the pokemon angrily. The Alakazam then growled as Cyndaquil's flamethrower made contact on his cheek. He dropped Machamp, and growled at Tiger.
"Kazam! Alakazam!?" he yelled angrily.
Cyndaquil seemed to flinch as if something Smokey couldn't understand offended him. "Cyndaquil Cynda Cynda"
"Cyndaquil is as strong as any starter, or its evolution. Now..." Tiger trailed off, and looked to the sky. A Pidgey landed nearby, and the shiny vulpix appeared with her mom next to her. "Are you really willing to injure one of the leaders of the forest? Kit, Lee, and Sage are all in charge when Lugia isn't around, and-" he was then cut off.
"Kazam! Alakazam Ala!" Alakazam snapped.
"I'm not playing guardian...I just know where, and when you and your trio are attacking innocent pokemon, or people. Sage, and Lee were only with you this time because Smokey is a stranger to you...now either back off, or fight" Tiger said firmly. Alakazam then growled, and raised his head. The lead pokemon then yowled creating an alarm to begin fighting. "Heh looks like a fight you'll get" Tiger said unenthusiastically. He then looked at Smokey, and handed him the pokeball that Alakazam took. "Here we will need your help to beat these three..I'm going with Kit to help Sage" Tiger said swiftly, and ran off with Kit next to him. The duo went to Sage's side.
Smokey blinked, and shook a thought away. He then let Chomp out. The Croconaw blinked at Smokey in shock. "Use a watergun on Incineroar now" Smokey commanded. His pokemon nodded, and ran into battle.
As the battle raged on, Smokey looked around he watched as Cyndaquil, and Tally teamed up, and fought Gengar. The small cyndaquil ran at Gengar at full speed. He was trying to confuse it from what Smokey saw. Just before it shot off a shadow ball, the cyndaquil used a flamethrower on the ground sending it skyward. Tally then ran past Gengar, and used a bite on it making it fall down. As Tally pinned the pokemon down, Cyndaquil crashed on top of it with a well timed aerial ace. The move caused dust to kick up nearby, and Smokey coughed. As he tried to see he was hit by a psycho cut.
"Alakazam Alaka Alaka zam" the Alakazam laughed mockingly.
"Get off me" Smokey struggled to break free as the Psychic pokemon pinned him down. He then felt the pokemon press a spoon against his throat.
"Alakazam" the pokemon sneered evilly. He then pressed harder.
Smokey coughed, and struggled to breath as the pokemon fought him. He then looked around, and saw the pokemon fighting nearby. As he struggled, Smokey grabbed a handful of dirt, and threw it at the Alakazam.
Taken aback by this, the pokemon stumbled. "Kazam!" it yelled angrily, and snarled. It then fell off Smokey, and the young trainer jumped to his feet. As he did so Tally, Chomp, and Cyndaquil ran over to the Alakazam. Smokey looked over, and saw both Incineroar, and Gengar had been defeated. They were running away defeated, and embarrassed. Smokey then scanned the area, and saw that Machamp had fainted as well, and Tiger was still tending to the Shiftry while Kit was tending to Lee. Smokey then turned back to the fighting pokemon.
Cyndaquil, and Pidgey were circling the psychic pokemon in an attempt to confuse it. While Tally, and Chomp were using a combo of bite. As the Alakazam struggled to fight back, he glared at Smokey with a look as if to say "Humans, including that brother of yours aren't welcome here..." Smokey then looked away, and went to Tiger.
As the boy finished up with Sage, Smokey heard a final cry of defeat from Alakazam, and the pokemon ran off. Watching as it fled the battlefield, Smokey heard Tiger speak. "You aren't hurt are you" his younger brother asked, and before Smokey could respond. Tiger was already examining him. His green eyes seemed distant.
"No...I don't think so" Smokey said kindly, he ignored the pain in his throat where Alakazam had tried to kill him.
Tiger nodded, "good" he said in a low mumble. He then sighed heavily, and forced himself to smile. "I think it's best if Cyndaquil, and I escorted you to the barrier" he said a bit lightly.
Smokey nodded, and didn't object. He'd like to talk to his brother one final time before he left. He wasn't sure when he would see Tiger again, but he hoped it was very soon. He then recalled Chomp, and looked at his brother. "Lead the way" he said softly.
Tiger looked at Smokey, and sort of snorted in amusement. Glancing over to Kit, Tiger called to the Ninetales "hey I'm going to take Smokey to the border. I'll be at the cave before sundown" he told the Ninetales kindly.
"Tales Ninetales" Ninetales nodded, and finished healing Lee. The Machamp, and Shiftry then woke up, and left the area.
"Let's go..we don't have all day" Tiger said slightly enthusiastic. He then walked to the rock wall. Smokey followed his brother in silence.
--------------------------------------------
"So Ho-Oh, and Pichu are all under Frost's control" Tiger finished as he told Smokey the story of how he was brought here.
Smokey nodded as he listened to the story. He was walking through the forest with his brother. He then saw the rock wall border where he had come. "So Frost has a kid that is being trained by him, and he might be our half-brother?" Smokey asked gently.
Tiger nodded, but didn't reply to the question. "Yeah...and I promise that I will not be stolen from again" he said quietly.
Smokey nodded, and looked at the barrier "looks like it's time for me to say goodbye" he said sadly.
Tiger sighed, "yeah, but goodbye isn't forever. I'll be home soon" he said gently, and smiled. Smokey could see the guilt, and sorrow from that morning in his eyes. Smokey then hugged his brother.
"Listen...I will tell mom, and Elm that I found you, but Lugia has something planned. That way they will stop worrying about you, and you can go home when you can" he said gently.
Tiger nodded a thanks, and looked at the rock wall. "The tree I climbed up to reach the top is nearby. You can leave that way, but I will have to destroy the tree you came in through" he said quietly.
Smokey nodded, and let go of Tiger. He then went to the tree, and looked at it. Just like the night he appeared in the forest he could see that this tree had been here for a while. Its branches were thick, and full of healthy green leaves. Unlike the sick one he used to climb into the forest, it had apples growing at the top. Smokey blinked "hey one last question before I go" he said, and turned to Tiger.
Tiger tilted his head slightly confused. "Yeah?" he asked.
"Why did you throw that apple at me the night before I arrived here" he asked.
Tiger laughed at the memory "you see I was on a patrol with Lee because we heard rumors of trainers coming closer to the barrier. I grabbed an apple from this tree, and I was about to eat it, when Cyndaquil bumped into me. It was a complete accident" he said lightly.
Smokey blinked, at first he thought it was because his brother seen him. He then laughed "clumsy Cyndaquil you have there" he joked.
Cyndaquil responded with a light hearted flamethrower. It hit Smokey's sleeve, but Smokey patted away the flame.
Turning back to the tree, Smokey began to climb into it. He then balanced on the high branches, and jumped onto the rock wall's top. "Goodbye, Tiger. Please stay safe" Smokey said, and looked at his brother from the rocky summit. Tiger was no more than a small speck on the ground.
"Bye Smokey! I promise I will be home soon" Tiger called back to Smokey before turning away from the rock wall, and running into the forest with his head down.
Smokey sighed, and jumped back into Viridian forest. The tamer part of the forest seemed a bit quiet. Smokey then closed his eyes, I was successful with finding Tiger after so long, but Tiger seemed to have grown a lot since he saved Lugia, and left home. Though what will I tell mom, and Elm. I promised I would tell them, but....will they believe me? Smokey thought to himself with a long, and heavy sigh. He then glanced at the rock wall once more. Before he ran in the opposite direction of the forbidden forest, and the safety of Viridian.
