Death Waltz
cestlamort
He asks her to dance
She takes his hand with an unwavering confidence
They look each other in the eyes as the music starts
And without warning she’s spinning on her feet
Heading deeper and deeper into the darkness
Deeper and deeper
And suddenly she’s terrified
She begs with tears on her face
For another chance to live.
Death just looks into her eyes.
“How dare you?
How dare you back away from your promise?
How dare you rip out my heart and tear it to shreds
Right in front of me?”
He continues dancing, never missing a step
With anger etched upon his face
She doesn’t say a word
She just spins and spins, terrified,
Terrified as the music reaches a crescendo
What will become of her? Would she dance,
With Thanatos forever?
Around and around,
Darker and darker,
Quicker and quicker,
Unable to keep up?
She’s moving quicker than before
Until she stumbles and falls
Out of his arms
That’s when she thinks that maybe
He will let her go
Like her life wasn’t in his hands
Even though it already was
And she could never take it back
Ever.
With concern in his eyes, Thanatos stops.
“Are you all right?”
She glares at him
No I am not all right, she thinks
I want to go back.
But she says nothing;
She was the one that leapt into his arms
With no response to her silence,
Thanatos takes her hand
And without hesitation they look each other in the eyes again,
The dance begins again,
And she spins around again,
And again,
And again.
