Rien pushed the door open tentatively with his foot. It seemed pretty dark on the other side, but hair that was less humid and warm was already drifting in. It smelled in general a little better. Rien didn't go in yet, just trying to see as much as he could. Past the door was a small room, lit by a single sconce hanging above the door at the end. It had stone walls and a very old-looking box sitting in the middle of the room. Above the door, above the sconce, was some sort of engraving in the stone in a language that certainly wasn't English.
first i feel like rien is going to pass out from exhaustion if i let him keep going second if we dont let them have food they will starve to death

"Sounds good to me," yawns Jess. "He had, uhh, grey skin, and it had white freckles all over, pointed ears, and he was wearing teal, and also levitating just a little bit. Looked kinda old-ish. Might have a bloody nose, I really didn't pay attention where I punched." Guy kneels and smiles nervously. "I... I was gonna tell you to get some sleep. You must be tired."

"Careful which way you point that," chuckles Jess at the sword hilt. She looked pretty unimpressed by the bag's contents. She lays back down and puts her hat over her face. "Well, I'm good. Do whatever you want with that stuff. Try not to hurt yourselves." Guy seems to remember something and glances through the group, searching for Topaz.

There was an odd array of things in the bag. The bag itself was dark grey and could be attached to a belt, and it has a fancy silver buckle. Inside were a few smaller bags - at least two just contained berries or a trail mix of some sort. The others were just white powder or black powder. There was some kind of locket without a string inside. When opened, it showed just an image of the night sky, and a bright blue jewel. Also in the bag, in a special side pocket, was an elegant sword hilt with a hole at the bottom. No blade, just the hilt. Jess sits up to watch Kara pull out whatever she found.

"People with magic aren't inherently evil," Guy adds quietly, coming to the defense of some hypothetical mage they hadn't even met. "Okay, consider - someone goes out and finds the guy who punched me. Give him back his stuff, but only if he knows how to use a hostage charm and will come with us. Holding his stuff ransom. He was levitating, so, I mean, he might know something?" Jess shrugs and laughs. This was getting kinda ridiculous. "Search through that shit if you want, I'm sure not doing that tonight." She lifts her hat to look at them all again, grinning. "Beware, it might be booby-charmed!"
jess, internally: haha booby

Jess chuckles. "Magic is a tricky thing, you've got a point. As cool as a hostage charm would be..." She shrugs and takes a bite of the apple, resting her head back on the pillow. "Why couldn't... we just... ask politely!" Guy laughs and shakes his head. "Oh. Right. I mean, I guess."

"It is, in general, a very good idea to lock your door, always," says Jess emphatically. She tips her hat so she could look at Kara and Kane. "Also, good idea, but we might have some trouble keeping them around once they're found out. It'll be real easy for them to escape and all I can do about that is threaten to track 'em down, soo..." "Have you ever heard of hostage charms?" asks Guy. "I can't cast charms and don't know anyone who can, but it's an... interesting concept. Fairly illegal, however. So is murder."

"I don't like it very much. If I could take it back and choose somewhere else, I would. Would you be mad if I told you it was all kinda last minute?" Ollie chuckles. "I've been, uh... pretty preoccupied with another project that went awry. Again. For the third time. Anyways, this building was available so I took it." He follows Father's steps, hands in his pockets.
Raoul watches her struggle with the sentences with a small grin. Once he read it all, he laughs sharply. "Excited puppy, really?? Is that what you get from me?" He scratches the back of his neck. "That's... pretty embarrassing, to be honest. I don't even really like dogs that much. But I'm usually alone in the lab, too, except while I was working on Wil I got to show Coby how to do it, and 'course Ollie's gotta supervise now and then."
"I was talking more about the cases. You'd be surprised how out-of-date some of the stuff in my room is, though. Pops is scared of what I'd do if he gave me all the new shit. Also he probably doesn't wanna waste that money, right?" She kicks the door of the broom closet shut after a quick look-over. "If we have to start picking locks manually I might need a little bit of help."

"Only shitty thing is that I've got no clue which direction it is." She tips her hat over her face. "We could be going, like, the completely wrong way and we'd never know." "That's great," sighs Guy. "Thank you anyway." "Wait, shit. Can someone lock the door? I don't remember if I did."

Rien didn't move his hands from his face, looking genuinely and completely shocked. "How..." His expression shifted and he burst out laughing, though it mingled with coughs. As he laughed his hands slid down his face and he shook his head. "Goddamn!"

"I guess you've been here a little longer than us, eh?" Jess leans back on the bed and folds her arms behind her head. "We'll decide if we stay or if we go tomorrow, probably. I couldn't find a lot of information, and I don't know if this is reliable, but I did learn a little bit. Mountains, you guys, far from here. Basically a wall at the end of the world."

"He's probably fine." Jess nudges open the tarp with her foot. Most of the food in there was packaged, for travelling, and then there were a few fruits. "If you guys intend to stay here another day, I'll probably hang here a little bit. I've been out for only one evening and I'm pretty sure it's not safe to assume that I can hang out outside all day without SOMEONE trying to start a fight. That's part your fault, I had to defend myself because of your ass." Her words were harsh, but as she gestured at Kane, she didn't look very angry. She picks up one of the apples from her bag. "Eat the fresh stuff first, 'fore it goes bad."

"He punched me first," Jess replies sharply, looking over at them. "And I got this jacket fair and square because that windbreaker was ugly as hell, someone can take it if they want. But he punched me first and I hit him back and then took his stuff and ran so it doesn't really count as a fight." "I think that's exactly what a fight is..." adds Guy. "C'mon, it was, like, 2 seconds! I brought food, too."

"Chase it," bursts Rien, though he didn't move and didn't really think it would work. He presses his hands to his forehead and presses his eyes shut, seething with rage.
