There is rain in the city.
Lightning streaks the sky.
An ominous moaning pierces through the atmosphere.
They say it is a premonition.
A silhouette appears behind the mist.
You are afraid.

Afternoon.
An oppressive mist lingered throughout the city. Elegant towers faded into the sky, their peaks consumed by the blank white void above. On the beach, the ocean tides were at an all time low. Not a trace of marine life could be seen from the shore to the horizon.
The people of the city spoke in hushed toned throughout the day: words of fortune, words of fear. They locked their windows, closed their doors, and hid themselves away.
It began to drizzle.

Norden found it curious that there were so little people on the streets. He wandered in the middle of a road, heavy white jacket hanging open, a pretty spear in one hand. When the first drop hit his forehead, he looked straight up to the sky, eyes vibrantly blue. He had to restrain a smile, even as a second drop hit him in the eye.
Dwindle was one of the people of the city speaking words of fear. He pushed his way out of the cheap cafe he'd been in, the steam rising from his paper cup disappearing in the fog, searching for a shelter.
"Hm. Gonna storm," Jess murmured. "Gonna storm bad." "What are you, an old lady?" asked Tazi, looking up skeptically at the sky. She met Jess's piercing gaze, then laughed aloud. "Oh, right! What do you say?" "This place's got shelters, right?" She shrugged. "Let's track one down, eh?" Tazi sighs deeply. "Alright, but we're leaving ASAP, okay? I can handle a little rain."

"So, it's one of those days," Spencer muttered. First the blanket of apprehensiveness he couldn't quite escape, and now the weather had turned. He'd been hoping to get some fresh air, but from the looks of it, the rain would only be getting heavier from here. It would only get worse from here, and he could just feel it. The whole city felt wrong.
The general consensus was that the day was cursed. Madeline had heard people chattering about it all day. She didn't have to look up from her book to know everyone wore identical looks of worry. Of course, sitting in the coffee shop all day would do her no good. It probably wasn't safe, either. She didn't want to go home, though. It was always too quiet there. Enya looked from the barista with trembling hands to the woman who was practically glaring at the novel in her hands to to the teary-eyed teenage boy. Something was going to happen today, and somehow everyone was sure of it.
Kotone walked past the shop, but did not enter. He just wanted to get back to his house. For starters, he'd forgotten to get a coat, and now it was raining. There was also the inescapable gloominess of it all, and he was anxious enough without the bad vibes.

A tall, dark-haired boy leaned against a bicycle rail as he stared into the sky, his face an unfathomable expression. He was just like any other edgy, emo kid on the block: dressed in black and surrounded by a angst-ridden aura. However, unlike other edgy, emo kids, he possessed sleek ebony wings, which arguably made him better. Or at least gave him a reason to be as pretentious as he was.
The streets were devoid of people--most of the city's residents found the idea of not getting caught in a storm rather appealing--which left the boy lonesome and thoughtful. That is, until Yue appeared. Suddenly, there she was: before the boy stood a petite girl in an oversized black rain jacket. She stood at five foot nothing, with dark brown eyes and a vaguely threatening vibe.
Lightning streaked the sky.
"I'm almost impressed with that aesthetic you're pulling off. If I didn't know you prior to this moment, I might have actually thought you were cool," said Yue, who had literally appeared out of nowhere. "Corvus Lancaster, the cool, mysterious loner."
"That's me," the boy, Corvus, said with the slightest smile. He shifted his attention from the sky to meet her eye. "What are you doing out here?"
"Excellent question. I don't have an answer. What are you doing out here?"
"Waiting."
Yue propped herself up on the bicycle rail to sit next to him. "Mind if I join you?"
"I suppose not. I have to warn you, though, something isn't right about this storm," Corvus replied.
"In what sense?"
"It's an omen."
Yue snorted. "I guess you could call it 'omenous.'"

Dwindle lifted his eyes from sheltering his paper cup from rain drops long enough to briefly rest his eyes on Corvus, taking note of the superior edgy emo kid. He himself was just like any other, with long black jacket and hair that probably needed to be cut, his blue lips and eyes really the only thing that stood out about him at all. He was ready to keep walking until he heard 'omen.' The pun 'dampened' the mood a bit, but his steps faltered and he tried, as innocuously as possible, to find a place to stand nearby so he could overhear. Which was, in fact, not very innocuous, since they were about the only three people in any vicinity.
Tazi glanced towards the little coffee shop. "Hey, if we're gonna be stuck in some shelter, can we get something to ea-" "Nope. Gotta go." She bristled. "You know if I starve, I die." Jess just rolled her eyes and shrugged. Tazi laughed sharply, but didn't press it.
Norden was probably the only person in the city, out of the shelters, still smiling. Any foreboding brought on by the storm was lost by the novelty of the raindrops. He kept walking.
