this is making me emotional I DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR THIS FEELS TRIP
Arata smiled wistfully and turned his attention to the pit. There wasn't any obvious way around it that he could see, and jumping in was definitely risky. "This is a problem." he commented, stepping away from the edge.

"... are we going to have to jump. I'm not jumping." Rien shakes his head, but doesn't step back, looking in to try to see the bottom "Do we have any rocks left? Or, like... a flashlight..."

Arata backtracked and picked up one of the rocks he found earlier. "Listen." He chucked it into the pit and waited and waited and waited, straining to hear the sound of it hitting the bottom. If there even was one.

It did hit the bottom, audible. It sounded like there was grass or something at the bottom and it certainly sounded... survivable. "I'm not jumping," repeats Rien. "That's suicide."

Arata was silent, thoughtful. Could they make it? Probably, but not definitely. The rock lay at the bottom of the pit in amongst the grass. He judged it would be impossible to get OVER the pit. "We may not have any choice but to jump."

"You'll have to push me." Rien shakes his head at the pit. "I'd rather go back to the cave-in and try to claw our way out. Even if you survive that jump you're going to break all your bones." He might've been exaggerating just a bit.

you're going down I'm yelling timber
"I suppose we can try that..." Arata said doubtfully, turning around. "However, the dangerous tile room will still be the-" The water lingering on the bottom of his shoes caused him to slip and fall into the pit.
Not much later, a thud was heard as he hit the ground. The impact of the landing had shaken him, but he was still undoubtedly alive. "I am alive!" he called helpfully.

"OH MY GO-" Rien spun around to try to grab him and missed horribly. He jumped at the sound of the thud and lowered to his knees, staring down into the darkness. "OH MY GOD YOU FUCKING IDIOT! Can you see anything? What's it like down there?" The plants looked or felt like ferns. Whether Arata could see down there or not is a mystery to me.

"It is dark. But there are plants, a lot... a lot of plants." Arata's vocabulary was, as always, second to none. He attempted to stand up, only for his ankle to spasm and give way, leaving only sharp pain. The fall must have done something to it, he reasoned.

"Okay but is there any other way to get down? Don't think you falling and surviving is going to reassure me at all."

"You could land on me." Arata suggested, not even joking in the slightest. He squinted in the dimness for a ladder, something to stand on, anything.

"If there's no other way, I might," mutters Rien, shaking his head. He shifted until his feet were hanging off the ledge and he was sitting on it. His boots dripped water down into the dark.

Arata shuffled over to the place where the water droplets were falling, trying to focus on determining Rien's location in relation to his own. "I am directly below you now. Er... I'll try my best to catch you if you jump." He was quickly losing count of the number of falls he'd taken today.

"How ironic would it be if I survived everything in my life so far except this," whimpers Rien. "I guess I'm dropping." It took him a few seconds, but eventually he edges forward and let himself fall, panicking and screaming anyways.

Arata held out his hands to catch Rien, the sudden impact causing him to wince and lose his balance. Ouch. He lay motionless for a few seconds before sitting up slowly. "Ah... are you alive?"
