I used to wonder if there were other worlds, waiting to be found. Now, well, now I know the truth…
I touched the glass with my finger tip and stared at it carefully. There had to be something other than a wall behind it, there just had to! I rolled my eyes and tapped the glass one last time, just to check I hadn’t missed anything peculiar. My reflection looked back at me, perfectly in sync with my movements, an exact copy of me, yet…it seemed different somehow. I placed a hand on the glass again and stepped slightly closer, only to be engulfed by darkness.
‘Hello?’ I heard a voice say, although it sounded far away, garbled, like it was under water. I opened my eyes, my vision was blurred and took a while to focus. I looked up and brushed my hair out of my face. A few feet away, was a girl, around my age, sat on a low branch of a tree. She looked me in the eye and I attempted to turn away, but I couldn’t, she obviously had some sort of control over me. She leaped down onto the floor, landing like a cat on all fours. I tried to backed away, still sat on the floor. Whatever this ‘thing’ was, it didn’t look friendly. Her hair wasn’t visible, covered by a hat in the shape of cat ears, with two ribbons hanging from the back, one half was turquoise, the other bright pink. I took a deep breath and looked her in the eye again. ‘Who are you?’ She asked, as she drew closer I noticed a cat tail trailing on the ground behind her. She definitely wasn’t human.
‘I’m H…Hazel.’ I offered my hand tentatively to her. She blinked at it, obviously confused by the gesture and sat down, her legs crossed. She rested her chin in her hands and her tail curled around her foot. I stood up slowly and began to walk away, but she shot to her feet before I could get far enough. I sighed and crossed my arms. She wasn’t the kind of ‘person’ who could let something go quickly, it seemed.
‘So…what’s your name?’ I questioned her, raising my eyebrow.
‘Oh, me? Well, Hazel, I’m…’ She began. But, before she could finish, another voice interrupted her.
‘Honestly, Quartz, anyone would think you’re trying to scare the poor girl! Leave her alone!’ I turned around to see where the voice was coming from. A little further up in the tree that Quartz had been sat in, was another girl, looking down at me. I groaned quietly in annoyance, not another one, I thought silently, Quartz was bad enough, staring at me with her unblinking gaze. But wait…this girl was different, she looked almost…human. She looked like…me! It was then that I realized what had happened and who she was. Though it seemed impossible, somehow, I’d entered a parallel universe and that girl…was my reflection, brought to life…
~UNFINISHED~
Please give me feedback, I might post character info later.
