"Chris." She opens her eyes. The grey light that always filtered in through the window, landing in a perfect square at the side of her bed, was disturbed by the halogen lamps of the hallway; Slowly, she turned her head to look at the open doorway. And there stood Noah, the oldest she'd ever seen him - eighteen now, maybe older if her track of time had failed her, certainly dressed older. Formal clothes, as if he was visiting church - but, of course, he wasn't. She pushed herself so she was sitting upright and gave him a soft smile. "Noah." A small tired gesture. "To what do I owe the pleasure?" Noah lingers in the door for a moment, then with a sigh, shuts it behind him. "Mm. That doesn't look like good news." "It's not news. It's a question." Seeing her wry little smile - oh, how many of his questions she'd failed to answer over the years - he backtracked, eyebrow twitching. "A favour, how about?" He was rewarded with her surprised blink, not quite sure whether to keep smiling. "Oh." "Chris..." He stopped in the middle of the little cell, his shadow cast through the patch of sunlight. "You never said it aloud. You were training me, though, weren't you?" "That's a question." "It's leading to the favour. It's an easy question." "It is an easy question. Yes. From the second I asked you if you wanted to come with me, though you might have been too small to remember that. How lucky I am you grew into such a good successor." Did she know how much her words calmed his nerves? "So I am your successor." "Is that a question or a statement?" "I am the librarian now." No sound came from Chris except her breath slowly leaving from her, and it seemed too long until she drew it back in. "Chris," he said, a voice that had been so long strung with resent and judgement when he spoke to her, now low and honest. "You will never open the library doors again. But will you show me how? Would you tell me how?"
-"Noah, wait. I... I could think of no better way to redeem myself. In a small way." -try cutting out chris bringing up taking him, he brings it up himself and reminds him of the faith she has in him
Noah, irritated, mostly with himself, produces a pack of cigarettes and a lighter from the car's glovebox.
It had been hard, figuring out what to do with it - he wasn't going to touch it at all, but Ray had convinced him it was about time they each had their own room. But she'd felt the same as him - somehow, it felt wrong for the room to be hers. He didn't feel much better about it - in the end, it'd been her comment that she wouldn't be around all the time, and she thought it would feel worse if the room stood empty whenever she wasn't there, its emptiness heavy on the house. Although, admittedly, that might not have convinced them if they hadn't done such a good job fixing the space. It was like a new room, his room now, unrecognizable. And that's what Chris saw when she looked into the room she'd slept in for so many years. Noah asked a question he was so reluctant to ask her, only looking at her from the corner of his eyes. "Are you going to be alright?" She took a slow breath. "Yeah. I... Part of me - the selfish part of me - expected it would have still been exactly as I left it." She turned him, her soft smile more fatigued than it had been before, weighed with a faint sorrow. "It's... probably better this way." She looks back. "It looks good."

The brute in the bar had her dangling by her wrists like he was ready to slow her when the blond man interrupted the fight. With a swipe at his shins, he knocked the big man down and Stephox landed on top of him. By the time she caught her breath, up on her feet and looking for her spear, the blond had seized her by her collar. "Alright," he said, to the rest of the bar more than to her, "I think that's enough." When she started to writhe, she heard him whisper through his teeth, "Stop that. I'm helping you." She wriggled for another moment more, but as the man who'd picked the fight with her sat up from the ground, glowering at the newcomer but not rising, she slowly went limp in his grasp. He hoisted her onto his other side and gave her a push towards the door, sticking by her shoulder. "Come on." Despite the shove, when they passed through the bar's door he took her collar again, pulling her out of the street and into the alleyway at the building's side. She began to twist and he released her, letting her stumble into the wall from the moment before spinning around. The first words out of her mouth were, "I didn't need your help." The blond man was short for a human, but built broadly in the shoulders, with a crooked nose and scars creeping up his neck. "Yeah?" he said, hands on his hips. "Then why'd you come with me?" In the moment it took Stephox to fumble for a retort, he said, "I believe you." She blinked at him, and he went on, "If I'd been in a gambling mood, my money would've been on you." "Why'd you interrupt, then?" He smiled, looking back at her. "I got better ways to spend my money. Where'd you learn to fight like that?" "Petrie Mire." "Mm. And how old are you?" When she didn't answer, he rocked his head to one side. "Like, sixteen?" "Twenty," she shot back, irritated. His smile just grew. "I see." He stuck out a hand to her. "Elias Baird. You got a name?" "Stephox." She didn't shake his hand, and he lowered it without the amusement leaving his eyes. "Alright. So, Stephox, what do you think about getting some training?" "Training?" "To fight. A sponsorship with the League of Swords. I see potential in you." "I don't need training." This time, his smile flashed teeth. "Oh yeah? I believe you could take down Henry in there, but don't let that inflate your ego, girl. I'm not the scariest man in town, but I don't think you could put a scratch on me." She squared herself and reached over her shoulder, then stopped, eyes widening. "Hm? Looking for this?" Raising his eyebrows, Elias pulled her spear from his own shoulder. "That's mine!" Eyes glinting, he began to back out of the alley, putting space between the two of them. "Well, by all means, then. Come get it." She launched at him, hands slamming both his shoulders and feet finding threshold on his arm and hip - but not for long, as Elias spun and slammed the butt of her spear into her side, the hit and her own momentum sending her careening off of him and into gravel road. He tossed the spear over, kicking up stones as it rolled towards her. She jumped at it - and a mace came at her from the side, and with an awful crack she was sent tumbling another four feet away, feeling every pebble dig into her damp skin. She tried to suck in a breath. She tried to suck in another. "Aw, come on," called Elias from behind her. "You can do better than that." She tried to move, but it sent a bolt of numbness down her ribcage through her legs that made her lose what breath she'd caught. "... Christ, how hard did I hit you?" She heard his voice once more, closer but quieter, before she shut her eyes.
When she next blinked them open, the pain was a hazy ache and the room was a bit too bright. She was in a bed, muffled voices in another room, and in front of her a couple meters away, the blonde man sat slumped in a chair, hands folded in his lap, looking towards the room's door. Donna, who'd been sat on the floor beside his chair, looked towards her and rose to her stubby little legs, plodding over to the bedside. Elias glanced over, first down at the stegosaur, then up at Stephox as she hung an arm off the bed for Donna to shove her snout against. "That really hurt," she said. "Must've. If it makes you feel better, I got into a lot of trouble for it." "It does." The smile she cracked made him crack one too, albeit wearily as he turned his head back towards the doorway, nodding at it. "Think you could tell them that so I can leave?" "Does that mean you're not going to train me?" He glanced over, eyebrows raised. She stirred, propping herself up. "It wasn't fair. I already had to fight the guy in the bar. I can do better." "Lie down," he said, and she stopped rising but didn't go back down. With a disbelieving grin, he shook his head, and at that she did start to sink back down. Then he said, "You'll have to convince Cenn you mean it and that I didn't hit you in the head." She shot up right - firing heat through all the muscles around her left side so bad she was forced to slump back down into the mattress. "Right, well, if you don't heal that, you're not gonna be able to fight again with or without training." "I'll be fine," she whimpered. "You're not gonna hit me that hard every time, are you?"

Glancing over with an eyebrow raised, "I know exactly who you are, Elias Lagace." That shut him up for a moment. Even as it did, his smile grew back with a twist of humor. "You know my family name. I don't see what that has to do with me." Garum turned away with a small laugh and a roll of his eyes. "I'm not done yet," said Elias, still smiling, and Garum stopped. "'Cause you know, Garum, if anything I think that tells me more about you than it does about me: Just because one of us isn't more than the boy his family kicked out doesn't mean we both haven't." Garum turned back to look at him, expression dark, but left in silence.

Marion has a phobia of fire. Pat is definitely afraid of heights. Step would definitely be afraid of needles. Garums definitely also afraid of heights. Leslie and Tobe both cynophobic lmfao. Brant afraid of thunderstorms? Likewise Nicky gets terrified hearing anything like falling over like there could be someone in the apartment. ARI is definitely afraid of thunderstorms.

"Where are the kids?" "Wish I could tell you." From the look on Killcrop's face, he means it. "They were still together last I heard of them, at least." "What happened?" "What do you think? Police caught up with me. Got a chance to talk to the two of them, told them to take everything and to take care of each other." He looks down, shifting back and forth. "Almost ten years without their dad. But it kept 'em out of the system, kept 'em from being forced to testify against me..." "The system?" "You know what I mean. They don't need new parents. God knows they wouldn't treat them right." He glances up, catching sight of the sympathetic look she's casting him, and he returns a hard, unamused smile. "Don't look at me like that." "I can just imagine... Your childhood must have been difficult." His smile grew to show teeth, tilting his head. "It wasn't." For a moment, she was at a loss for words, and Killcrop continued in a low voice, "The man who brought me up was a good man, a real good man." He rolls his neck back. "But he was also a moralistic coward, just like the rest of humanity. Which is to say, he didn't like me." Pacing past her, almost singsonging it, "He thought there was something wrong with me. But he always wanted to do the right thing." The words were laced with with derision and humour. "No matter what the other kids told him. No matter how many dead animals I left lying around. Even after I broke Iris's kneecap and hung him upside down from the maple." He looks into the distance, smile grim. "Y'know, it's funny - I think I respect Iris more than him. See, Iris knows what I knew." He looks back at her. "The old man should've killed me before I got big enough that he couldn't."

Preacher wove her way between the crewquarter beds in the pitch dark of the lower decks. Ever one for a late night walk, even the dim light of the stars and moon she'd been watching were enough to make her eyes ill-adjusted here, and she guided her route with one hand skimming the frames of the upper bunks, occasionally brushing a blanket or a hand, not keeping long enough to apologize or even to be identified. "Hey," murmured a low voice at her legs. Preacher stopped - against her better judgement, but she knew the voice. Perhaps that made it twofold against her better judgement. She looked into the bunk until she could make out Magni's face, a smooth cheekbone, her lips among her dark beard, closed eyes framed by lashes. Fast asleep even as she mumbled, "Nononono... Mh... something good..." Her eyebrows creased and she rocked her head away, falling silent with a low sigh. Preacher lingered in front of the bed, looking down almost derisively, feeling it was strangely intimate and flagrantly a bit cute in a way she found downright distasteful. She turned her head, ready to leave, but as she did saw a glint in the darkness just above her - another set of eyes. Thin and tired, set on either side of a hooked nose, dark waves a halo on their flat pillow - the eyes studying her could only be Yohai's, watching her watching Magni. "She truly never shuts up, does she?" whispered Preacher, without a beat missed. After a moment, like they were reluctant, Yohai cracked a thin entertained smile and nodded. "I think it's chronic. Anything you can do about it, doc?" "Nothing you couldn't also do." Yohai breathed a laugh. Jacket brushing the bedframe behind her, Preacher continued into the dark.

I think vallen wearing rosaries is canon because I think he's like "you might think that being locked away made me feel abandoned by god, but if anything it really brought us closer. like a test of my will. I think I'm closer to god than anyone else" <‐ (has a complex)
